Video Games Magazine (June, 1996)
Crash's first cover. Video Games Magazine is one of Larry Flynt's
less-successful ventures. The top brass at Flynt Publishing
briefly contemplated placing the "Hustler Honey" centerfold of the
month in Video Games as a last ditch attempt to regain readership,
but they decided to scrap the mag instead. Likewise, Crash turned
down an offer to do a centerfold in Hustler.

GameFan Magazine (June, 1996)
Shortly after Crash's Video Games Magazine cameo, GameFan did him
justice. Crash went on to receive the highest rating GameFan had
ever given a PlayStation game. He also has become a fixture on the
"PlayStation Nation" banner that graces DieHard's monthly
PlayStation section. As we suspected, Editor-in-Chief Dave
Halverson did indeed turn out to be a distant cousin of Crash. A
tip of the mohawk to Dave Bandicoot-Halverson, Jay Puryear, and the
rest of the gang at GameFan.

PS Extreme Magazine (August, 1996)
PSExtreme welcomed Crash with open arms (and eager fingers.) They
used the original box cover art on their cover -- Crash's greatest
grin in print. PSExtreme would give the completed crash a 98%
score and "Platinum" status. Props to Dave Winding and Gregg Off,
as well as Zach Meston and the rest of the gamers at Dimension
publishing.

Game Players (September, 1996)
Now trading as "Ultra Game Players," Game Players magazine gets the
Naughty Dog award for "most creative use of provided materials."
Instead of printing the cover as given to them, Game Players did a
hack job on it and ended up with a darn nice alternative cover.
Kudos to the artist who made the effort! The Crash issue of Game
Players (March '97) is their best-selling issue to date. 'Lo to
Roger Burchill, Mike Salmon (who doesn't, it turns out, look like
Andy McNamara as previously thought), and everyone else who makes
UGP tick.

P.S.X. (October, 1996)
Almost immediately after Crash's launch, P.S.X. magazine ran a big
feature on the game, with walkthroughs. Most of our parents still
can't get past the first stage. Another noteworthy item in this
issue is this quote from the Crash Review in this issue: "The first
and best platform game for the PS." We gather that all "first"
titles in a genre are by default "the best." We still appreciate
the encouragement, however. Rock on Todd Mowatt and crew!

Next Generation (December, 1996)
"The Big Fight" The cover says it all. Crash and the other big
boys locked in mortal combat. Mono a mono, or paw a mano, or
whatever. A big gracias goes out to Chris "Rappongi" Charla,
Patrick Baggatta, and the rest of Next Generation's staff.

Megafan (4th Qtr, 1996)
The incredible Halverson walkthrough in print -- a bargain at three
times the price. Say no more. Pocket sized so you can read it in
class. Thick enough to beat siblings or friends away from your
PlayStation game console when you get home. Crash and Naughty Dog
were honored to be the first issue's cover subject.

Official UK PlayStation Magazine (September, 1996)
The UK's best-selling dedicated PlayStation mag. The same cover
was also used on other European countries' incarnations of the
Official PlayStation Magazine. Great cover. Great coverage.
Thanks to Allie West, Pegley, and the rest of the Official
PlayStation Magazine crowd in Europe.

Computer and Video Games (November, 1996)
The one year European PlayStation launch anniversary party issue.
That's an odd candle you've got there, Crash. Score: 4/5. "Every
ingredient from the platform cookbook, perfectly fitted in place
with fantastic graphics to match. It's the Terminator of platform
games." Hasta la vista, Baby! Thanks to Paul Davies and the
Crew!

Game Informer (September, 1996)
This is a hack job... that worked. The
original
image didn't even have Tawna in it. The artists at Game Informer
used Photoshop to make this cover out of multiple source images. It
was the first issue of Game Informer to sell out. The next issue to
do so was the Crash 2 cover a year later. Reiner's review scores should
have been higher than 9/10, but don't tell him... he's touchy.
