Asked Questions :: Updated 09/19/2005 Frequently Asked Questions normally soud something like "how do I...", or "why does the..." , etc. Now sure we could go point by point and answer every single question that comes in if we weren't so busy creating your next favorite game (we never rest), so in the interest of expediency, below you will find all of the info you need to kick your friends butt at Jak X. Just don't let them know you read about it here till after you're done kicking... Blue Eco Is Your Best Friend! The Blue Eco that gets stored in the gauge next to your right-hand Weapon Slot can be used to give your vehicle an extra burst of Turbo speed! Experienced racers try to be turbo-boosting nearly all the time during Race Events. Blue Eco is Everywhere… Grab the Blue Eco power-ups that you find on the Tracks and in the Arenas, and use them to turbo-boost as much as you can, keeping your speed at a maximum! You can also receive Blue Eco from Power Sliding, or by jumping in the air and getting a long Hang Time. Some tracks also have Blue Eco Booster Pads, which will max out your Blue Eco bar and automatically trigger your Turbo Thrusters when you run over them. Keep A Little Blue Eco Back It’s a good idea to keep some Blue Eco in reserve in your tanks at all times, just in case you need it to escape from a sticky situation, or quickly accelerate back to top speed going up a hill. So don’t use it all up, if you can help it – grab some more instead! Don’t Sit On One Weapon For Too Long! A simple mistake that it’s easy to make is to grab a Yellow Eco or Red Eco pod, and then hoard the weapon that it gives you. It’s a good idea to keep using up both your Yellow and Red Eco Weapons – especially if you’re about to run over a new Eco pod – to increase your chances of getting one of the really awesome weapons, and to increase the chances that the opposition will meet their doom in the form of one of your missiles or mines! Explore and Learn the Tracks and Arenas Each and every Track and Arena has distinctive special features, in the form of short cuts, good hiding places, destructible statues and hidden Eco Power-ups. The more you can learn about where to find this cool stuff, the better of an advantage you’ll have when it comes to the crunch! You can play the game in Adventure Mode to travel around the world, learning about the Venues, or you can revisit venues you’ve unlocked when you play in Exhibition Mode! Keep an Eye on Your Green Eco Gauge When the Green Eco Gauge next to your left-hand Weapon Slot reaches empty, your vehicle will explode. You’ll lose valuable seconds, as well as any Dark Eco that you had stored up! Try to keep your Green Eco Gauge full by grabbing the Green Eco pods that you’ll find in the Venues – and of course, try to avoid taking damage! Red Eco Weapons come in very handy for that, as you can use them to deflect incoming Tracking Missiles that your opponents fire at you. Upgrade Your Vehicle! You’ll earn Precursor Orbs as you compete in Events (even if you don’t win a Medal!), but don’t let that cash sit idly in the bank! You can spend Precursor Orbs on upgrading your vehicle in four categories: Top Speed, Acceleration, Armor and Turbo Capacity. Improving your vehicle’s Top Speed is a great way to get a competitive advantage in Circuit Races, while some extra Armor can go a long way towards making sure that you come out ahead in a Deathmatch! Try Different Vehicles At any point in the game, you’ll always have at least two vehicles, and usually many more, to choose from. Different vehicles are suited to different Venues and Events, so if you’re having a tough time completing a particular Event with one vehicle, then try another one! Explore, Experiment, Play! There are loads of skills to master and strategies to learn in Jak X: Combat Racing. There’s no teacher better than first-hand experience, and so the very best way to improve your mastery of the game is to grab and copy, and play, play, play! Take the game online using your broadband internet connection and PlayStation Network Adapter, and you’ll be part of a community of Jak X players sharing tips, trading advice, and helping each other improve their skills to battle and race their way to the very top of the competition ladders! The Secret of the Icebound Citadel There’s a cool secret short-cut in the Icebound Citadel that isn’t shown on any of the maps. From the start of the track, go forwards a short way, and then head left under into the triangular gap between the wooden beams. You’ll find a narrow alley with a terrifying jump across a pit of spikes – just make sure that you have enough Blue Eco to turbo-boost across the gap, and you’ll be certain to shave valuable seconds off your lap time! |
