More details about Title Update 1.05

Yesterday’s blog post about our Experimental Weekend results sparked quite a bit of debate in the comments and on the PlayStation.com forums. That was not unexpected, especially when we have such a great, vocal multiplayer community. Changing some aspects of gameplay is never an easy consideration for us, nor is it something easy for the players to adapt to. I’m sure once Title Update 1.05 goes up, it will renew the debate. As always – we’ll be reading closely and seeing how the multiplayer matches are playing out.

There’s quite a bit more in store for everyone with Title Update 1.05 and it’s all really good stuff.

In our very first Title Update we introduced a penalty system to deter players who were spuriously quitting from matches (also to quite a bit of debate).The deterrent actually worked really well – we saw in-match departures drop significantly almost immediately. That didn’t mean that the system we worked out was the best implementation, so we looked at ways to improve it, which will be active when Title Update 1.05 goes live.

The cash penalty for leaving a match will now be commensurate to your level at the time the penalty is applied. REMEMBER: You won’t receive a penalty for leaving a match for whatever reason for the first time within a particular span of time. The tiered penalty by level is as follows:

  • Levels 1 – 20: -10,000
  • Levels 21 – 40 = -20,000
  • Levels 41 – 60 = -40,000

We’ve also noticed – and heard your reports – of players who are flagrantly AFK during matches, apparently affecting Plunder matches the most. We’ve put in some hooks to look out for AFK players and remove them from the active matchmaking player pool until they’ve returned. That doesn’t mean you won’t run into AFK players or that some less than honorable players will find a workaround, but this should aid matches stay more balanced between teams.

Since Title Update 1.04, we’ve started to hear from you about seeing your individual Level being reset and also seeing your Ranked playlist skill rank reset again during the course of play. Both cases have been some very nasty occurrences that have not been easy to completely eradicate, despite our best efforts. Thanks to some aid from our community, we have been able to get to the bottom of what’s been affecting a small portion of our players. Addressing this as soon as possible was incredibly important to us, which is while you’ll be seeing Title Update 1.05 released very soon.

One last, more cosmetic, detail you’ll see in Title Update 1.05 concerns the multiplayer menu screen. Back in Title Update 1.02 we added leaderboards in various categories to the menu screen. To supplement this, we’ve added a crawling ticker to the bottom of the menu screen which displays select stats from the leaderboards.We’ve posted a couple screenshots of this in action in the Title Update 1.05 Flickr set.

It may be hard to believe, but we haven’t covered everything that’s in the upcoming Title Update 1.05 yet. Stay tuned for more!

I do glitch but not in public so I please don’t do anything bad to me. I only glitch in custom game parties where all my friends glitch.

I don’t want to be unpleasant, rude or repetitive but I do still believe that “players should be free of quitting or leaving any match or game at any time without penalty”.

I sure know, without running a poll, that penalizing player is a bad move.

Stubbornness, a lake of Will, maybe a lake of money or a lake of knowledge prevent ND to steep forward and give players a better system and stop penalizing them because they quit or leave a match. I guess!

Then at least ND should fix all the nasty issues that have been harassing players and so “give face” to those that awarded ND at Machinima and spike and, especially, to those that support ND, the players.

This is the way you should “Commensurate” not that one you are stating for update 1.05.

The problem is that if you are in a Plunder match trailing 1 to 3 with 5 minutes to go, your whole team is gonna quit out so that it doesn’t affect their win-loss ratio, or quit if a match is not going their way. A penalty system is a must.

Had a match last night where a player got Kicked, and his (TBag) team left right after.  Sorta lame as it left us with only 2 on our team, and 5 on the other in Plunder.

I also had a match where some (Limp) dude I don’t know on my team killed me for no reason, so I went around trying to kill him.  When he kicked me, I thanked him for saving me the $40,000 I’d have lost if I left on my own!

Felt good to save the cash as I am $250,000 away from the “oh so Pink” 50 now

if i got kicked, i didnt intentionally do anything to get kicked, and if others left after i did, they certainly werent friends of mine. it can get pretty whack sometimes and yes killing teammates happens sometimes. i definately dont meen to.

And the AFK’ers are RUINUNG plunder. It takes a TEAM to be successful. Going 2 or 3 on 5 really does blow.

I similarly agree to a certain extent.. a money penalty would not be cool.. it takes so long to earn like 20,000 bucks in game anyway! I’m not completely opposed to the 30 second penalty, though. Such as certain cases where I’m forced to unexpectedly leave during a 20 or 30 minute match, and it takes only 30 seconds to put on my shoes or whatnot before I even get out the door, so that’s perfectly acceptable to tax a gamer on time rather than in game earnings. That would be rather harsh alot of casual gamers out there!

Exactly.. I doubt that any of the ND guys would rather stay and play their game than quit because one of their friends is in the hospital or anything similar to that which obviously would be more important than a game.. (-_-);

sometimes i am oblige to quit a game, for example if all my other teammate leaves me because of connection error then what?
Am I forced to stay and keep playing so i could get my K/D ratio go low and mess it up??

I agree with you ALL2000 on the free thing.I was playing a game the other day and I killed a teammate twice by a gernade. So the player kicked me from the game but I was also charged 40,000 for not finishing the game. If a player kicked me then how is that my fault for not finishing a game? I shouldnt be charged for that.

Personally i think that it should be an option for all 3 of more plyers to agree to opt out a game, like pressing the start button with an option to ask player to quit the game, an if all plyers agree, then we all opt out. And if they don’t agree, and you quit anyway, then I think that player should be penalized for quiting. Also the penalty should be as follow, loose 1 number from there rank, and 40.000 from from their earned points, and kicked out for thirty minutes. Sorry be a quiter is a loser, and losers are bad sportsmanship.

What I would like is the $50K winning amount increased. You penalize us for leaving what about rewarding us for staying. (Especially when your in a lagging game)!!!

This is why I stopped playing the multiplay because it happen to me all the time. Along with the 40k penalty connection errors the game was just to frustrating to play.

Cant believe ND are wasting staff, time and money on the 40k issue, just get rid of it all together and concentrate on the important things such as the lag issues shown in bwiqui’s videos

When you get invalid, use it. 10 kills and you have 40K, then you should be able to get another 10K from Commando, Triple Threat, Gunslinger, etc. Or just get 15 kills raspberry

i hate the update they turned everything that i loved about the online was taken away now were playing 3rd person Call of Duty u die way to fast example: 1 shot from sniper, i was able to kill a guy from far with the shotgun the M4 is weaker every1 runs to the former balanced weapons and now there stronger then the dam RPG wth ND this is afull u guys better put uncharted 2 back to its glory or i might as well just play the wii

I agree with WhisperGamer. It makes the matches unfair and no longer fun. If I wanted to be glitched I’d return to Metal Gear Online. If you’re not sure what glitches these guys are practicing go on Youtube. They seem to pride on their ability to cheat and even go as far as creating tutorials online.

Please stop the glitching. Especially the missing trophy one in plunder. Hate when they purposely toss the treasure into the waters on the Fort Map and turn it into 20 minutes of boredom while we wait for it to reappear.

First health needs to go back to normal but that aside there is still more work needed for the Fort stage. Still to many openings for people to cheat and or glich the map, im happy that the treasure glich was fixed, but still the games good and difficult, but we dont need lazy player cheating the honest players out of a good game. So please Naughty Dog fix what needs to be fixed

How about a map pack? I ain’t got online in a month becuz i’m a lil sick of playing the same 7 maps..Renew my and everyone elses intrest by putting out some new maps please! MW2 dropped like 17 maps with the original release alone..

To be fair, UC2’s maps are some of the most detailed and meticulously designed and well thought out maps I have ever seen in an MP game.
These complex maps combined with the level of interaction your character has with the environment honestly makes the MP what it is. It takes time, money, and effort to design and balance these maps (though I think Ice Cave is perhaps the least well designed map as that level outright encourages spawn camping). So in other words, more maps are needed, desperately, but don’t rush them and have them be of the same caliber as the “17 maps MW2 dropped” on release.

I completely agree. The maps are perfectly balanced and have continued to be interesting for hundreds of matches. There may only be a few, but none of the maps are throwaway.

I would just like to add that I wish The Fort map had a third upper level that you could climb to. When I saw its trailer I noticed that the rooftops had the most gorgeous design and graphics and was sad to find that the actual map was limited to two floors. The Fort feels like the most constricted map in terms of movement.

I know that I’m not Arne, Killarado it’s been confirmed by many sites that ND will have a map pack on February 25th. 2 new maps and new skins. 1 of the new maps is based on the Uncharted 1 ruins. I think I’ve read that all the skins will be from Uncharted 1 as well. So I can only assume the 2nd map is U1 based to. I’m hoping the Nazi sub base is in it.

Arne has responded in other comments on the PS Blog that more DLC is on the way, but that until things are finalized, they need to keep the delivery dates fluid. So they are not announcing any details (date or content) until they are really final!

Learning patience and letting some things be a surprise might just mean you’ll enjoy it more? :~)

With lowered health I’m a little concerned with the balance of the game, shotguns won’t be as effective and camping will be more prevalent.  One of the reasons players love playing Uncharted 2 multiplayer is that it’s different from other games, I just sincerely hope this doesn’t end up being MW2’s third person mode.

So how long do you have to wait until you get another chance to quit a match without being penalized? Sometimes people just have to quit. Like if you need to leave, or if your internet connection goes out.

Also, please, PLEASE, do something about people who ruin Plunder matches. What I’m talking about is when really good players get together get in a full 5 person party and play a Plunder match, then once they 4 captures they leave the last treasure out and turn the rest of the match into a Team Deathmatch. That is actually the number one reason I quit matches, and it’s not fair.

Maybe you could make it to where once a team has 4 captures they have a limited time to get their next capture, unless the other team gets one.

This is my favorite online game of all time and these are my only complaints.

We’ve been looking at how to address this, however so far we haven’t found a solution that really works without potentially creating a situation where people wouldn’t want to play plunder because there is basically no reward for it.

i have an idea. implement a simular system as when you are playing gold rush. like if you put the tressure fast you get a bonus or whatever. like first its 3x, then 2x and 1x. but maybe not exactly the same, but the basic idea must be to reward them for winning a plunder match faster. maybe a medal for finishing before 15 min or something.

I see what you’re saying and I think it is a good idea, ND could recycle something like the co-op time bonus multiplier and medal.

If you couple any of this as way to exceed the 50K/match cap, I think it would provide a good incentive for plunder matches to end as soon as possible.

Arne can you tell me if the new update will also fix the friendly fire on multiplayer because it sucks to get killed by your own team mates. it happens on every game type… Its also a big problem because if you get kicked i think you loose money.. Please get back at me… Thank you

Then they will just stop at 3 treasures. I totally agree with you though, as it is very annoying. I was in a plunder game today. I was on a team with 4 from the same clan. They talked down on me when I tried to deliver the last treasure and ended up being naded by a team mate. What followed was one of the enemy team players carried the treasure out of our base without my team even shooting at him (they actually applauded). I spawned and ran towards the treasure and scored the 5th one to win the game, to much dismay of my team:D It made it feel all that much greater:D

IMHO of course—If you get 4 Captures, and the other team has Zero...it is more fun, and you get more cash if it becomes a DeathMatch.  I mean if you are playing alone, and got put on a team that isn’t so good—it kinda sucks.  At least that gives you a change to get Kills and Medals out of it.

Personally I do not like it when a team puts the 5th capture in right away cause there is so much opportunity in Plunder to get Cash—I mean like 15 minutes worth sometimes!

Completely understand what you are saying, but if you’re in a match using “Invalid” - you hit the dollar cap pretty damn fast (IF you are good) - then I want to get on the match and close it out to get to the next one.  So it is painful from that standpoint.  If they remove the cap - then keep the treasure out the box! smile

Not that I am a team-kill advocate - I REALLY am not, but that is a way to get out of a match without losing cash.

there is already way too much camping as it is. the fort is damn near unplayable because of it. if you insist on making these changes,could you make an option to remove the FAL?

it’s bad enough that when you’re in the 50’s, like me, and you use the half life booster, you can only take about2 shots from theFAL. with the changes, i’m gonna die from 1 shot from an FAL or AK47? RIDICULOUS!

But, I am still waiting for the guardian character to be added to the MP. As well as the perhaps the crossbow.

And as for taunts, there should be 2 two-man taunts added, the hi-five and the chest bump. You would just have to be near a teammate, and both agree to taunt at the same time.

Also, can’t wait to see the new maps hopefully this month and in March/April.

well, it’s your fault. why using the half life booster??? if you say that you are lv 50, then you should be skilled enough to not get killed by the FAL. it’s true that in the fort most of the players use the FAL, but if you already know that you should be able to avoid them!

Actually,

There are MANY ways to take out Campers in the Fort.  It is well-designed in that way.  Learn from your mistakes...learning quickly will be less irritating.

Perhaps that is an experience thing, but I’ve found MANY ways to better my game in U2 MP.  Message me sometime if you want some tips!

That all sounds good, but the one update that I want the most is this: the ability to create a custom pub game. 

I usually play in a party of four or five people, and that’s not enough for friends-only custom game so we have to go to the regular Matchmaking.  However, from here we’re stuck with whatever map/gametype randomly appears, and there are some maps/gametypes we prefer more than others.

I think if we could select these options for matchmaking that would be very beneficial.  Another idea to go along with this is for a party to “host” a specific map/gametype in Matchmaking and let other people join it.

I’m really glad you’re taking steps to address this AFK issue. I play mostly cooperative, and I frequently get into parties where there’s at least one AFK leecher.

Not sure it will work out as planned, some players will simply make sure that X or another key stays pressed so they won’t be considered as afk (or even if they will they’ll be put back in the matchmaking pool).
Those guys are really killing plunder.

I think the AFK got A LOT worse when the RE-MATCH option was implemented to put people in Matches with the same players they played in the previous Match.

Don’t get me wrong—I LOVE the RE-MATCH idea—I would just like to see AFK’s get booted on the next Match so other who are actually there can join in during the RE-MATCH!

Is that possible?

Please i really hope this 1.05 update will fix the issue of gamers having their levels being reset back to 1 if they get disconnected during a match. It happened to me twice. After the 1st time it happened, i worked my way back to level 27 & then BAM!!! I got disconnected during a Deathmatch Game & lost ALL MY LEVELS, BOOSTERS, CASH & EVEN MY NEW MULTIPLAYER SKINS. I hope this update really fixes this issue.

I have had several internet connection problems during gameplay and because of this I get kicked and every time this happens I loose 40K. As you can imagine I’ve lost quite a bit of money. I hope that you guys alter the penalty system so that anyone who disconnects due to connection errors isn’t penalized.

Dear Arne,

Please give a separate playlist for the “crushing health” thing. I did play the game during the experimental health weekend and did not really enjoy it partly because you died way too quickly, i.e. 2 shots of FAL and you’re dead plus it would only encourage camping.

With regard to the grenade timer, I personally find it just fine as it is. No need to change. If it is changed, shotgun users will be able to kill you and leave unscathed and there’s nothing more annoying than being blasted by a shotgun for so many times in a single game. At least with the current grenade timer, they’ll either die or left with a little health.

We had originally considered implementing the YouTube API into UNCHARTED 2, but we didn’t feel we could set aside the resources without a detriment to the game experience. Don’t bet on it being added now. Sorry.

Good that you’re fixing the stupid penalty system that has driven me away. Not completely there, but at least you’re listening to rational people.

Now, if you would drop the grind rate of level 45+ to get the end-game rewards, that’d be great. Spending a week or more just to level up one time after that point also does not make me want to play the game. It’s stupid that I have to grind for months just to get the last co-op unlock weapon. I don’t care about the competitive mode (esp given the number of 12 year olds there), so the rest of the stuff is meh. Grind rate is a little tough, but I wonder why they have a $50,000 cap on the score at the end.  It would make it easier for the better players to level quicker and would have no impact on the less skilled.

I like the new penalties. I’m only a level 12 and I’ve been kicked off the network 3 times since I started and lost $40,000 each time.

Also, it would be great if the team balance was fixed. It’s not bad to mix high ranks with low ranks but sometimes a pool of 10 people will have almost all the high ranks on one team and all the lower ranks on the other team. This leads to some majorly lopsided results that are fun for nobody.

Honestly, the “New Skins” I use lately are actually the “original skins” that were available at like Level 1-10...am almost Level 50 now and they are getting “old” again.  Never tire of Cloe in that Red T-Shirt though smile

Would be cool to also get general access to the Atoq Navarro Skin in the U.S.—I love his “Eat This Hahahahahaha!” Laugh when he tosses ‘Nades smile

Yeah i´ve never glitched in public games i never did,only up to 10 times in customer games and yesterday my account has been reseted...i was at level 57 in the elimination ranking the 544th and now i´m level 11 because i still played yesterday but i hope you can change something because i played this game so much to get this stats and this ranking position and now this happened to me and i don´t even know why...The same thing happened to a friend of mine “ Evil Thanatos” he was Level 60 and elimination ranking 36 and we both were shocked.

Hey Arne I have to ask, will we get new maps on February the 25th. Please respond to this question because ever since i bought UN2 on the end of November i’ve been told that we are gonna get new maps. I don’t know if they were rumours or not but UN2 has gone some time without new maps. I love the current maps but they start getting old if your a nerd like me who likes to play this game everyday of his life lol 8)

I love this game...do not get me wrong!!! but penalising players for leaving games.....well before this update even came about, a very long time ago i was on level 16, my connection messed up and i got a penalty goin bk down to 14!! considering how hard I played the game, it was painful!! but anyhow, what are AFK players?? i dont know if i have come across these people yet!

AFK means ‘Away From Keyboard’, from back in the days when it was only PC users playing multiplayer games.

You can also use ‘A Free Kill’ if you want. That was coined later but is still used today.

1.double taunt together with a teammate, just like one asked for before, that sounds very fun^^. Is that possible? Just have “solo taunt” and ha “double taunt” setting in the menu. When you are close enough, just press tant button at the same time (as good as you can). Like he said, i high five, chest bump or something fun^^.

2. Remove these bug-cheaters, i hate cheaters. Why even try it out? just once? They should be punished like your disbanden from the game a couple of days, not money-withdrawal.

Any penalty for people who purposely kill their own teammate (especially in survival) because they don’t like the team, or the map?

And I remember 3 times where because of my internet connection I was drop from game and was penalized, the penalty system should detect when a player leave a game voluntary, or involuntary.

Yeah, a teamkill penalty would be a plus.  I know you can kick someone for killing you twice, but that just means my team will be down by one player, which penalizes me too.  I’d rather see a teamkill get marked as either a -1 kill to the killer, or at least logged as a suicide so it lowers their k/d ratio.
