Earlier today the maximum level you can attain in UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer was increased to level 80 (XXX) for all players. While this was a planned increase in the level cap, it wasn’t our plan to increase it today and without warning – we can now share the full scoop on what the level cap increase means after the jump.

Along with launching “The Lab” for the weekend this morning, many of you noticed that the level cap has been increased beyond 60 (X). This now makes the maximum level attainable currently in UNCHARTED 2 is now 80 and is designated by an in-game badge which uses the roman numerals XXX. You can check out the full set of level badges on our Flickr photostream.

Each level beyond 60 requires accumulating $15,000,000 in cash to level up and that stays consistent throughout 61 to 80. That means you will need to accumulate a total of $362,965,500 to hit level 80.

If you had already hit level 60 (and hopefully kept playing) – there is some good news for you. With the level cap raise, you’ll automatically be brought up to the level that is appropriate to the total cash you’ve accumulated up to that point. That means you could come back to your profile to a higher level in recognition of all the hard work you’ve been putting in playing UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer, even though you had already hit level 60.

Increasing the maximum level has let us create a couple rewards to the players who have continued to play multiplayer. Hitting level 70 (XX) and level 80 (XXX) will unlock one new villain skin at each of those levels for purchase within the in-game store – Blaine is available at level 70 (XX) and Dutch is available at level 80 (XXX). We’ve also put up screenshots of both skins on our Flickr photostream. You may recognize both characters are mercenary characters from UNCHARTED: Drake’s Fortune, which we’ve updated to UNCHARTED 2 models and graphical standards specifically for the level cap increase. Blaine and Dutch are completely exclusive rewards to players who gain levels 70 and 80 respectively.

In addition, later today we’ll be increasing the per-match cash cap to $75,000 to make reaching these highest levels just a bit more within reach. We’ve also got plenty of Double Cash weekends planned for the future.

On a side note… as far as rising the level cap without warning – we had originally scheduled to make this change next week and planned to give everyone an ample heads-up about the level cap increase. Unfortunately, due to some miscommunication, that was not the case and the update went out without any warning.

I’m not thrilled that I wasn’t able to communicate this change to our community ahead of time – I know that being surprised by something significant like this doesn’t feel good and can really feel unfair. The bottom line is that you should know as much as you can – and that we’re able to provide – about any game changes or updates before they happen as soon as possible. I’ll be doing all I can to make sure we don’t surprise you again.

THANK YOU for increasing the cap! But even with the $75,000 it’s still going to be tough.
Not to complain but $100,000 cap would be much better.
(I doubt I’m gonna get an anwser) but if there still is a suprise is it DLC related or just a double cash weekend.

I’m pretty happy that NaughtyDog are still supporting the game, and I appreciate the effort and all their hard work.

I reached level 60 a few months ago and still played with badges of honour on since then. I am now only level 64. It’s gonna take a hell of a long time to get to 80, for what seems like very little reward.

So NaughtyDog would you please consider adding some more skins and skin variations for both Heroes AND Villains to help bridge the gap between 60 and 80 please? (But keep them Uncharted related, we don’t need more skeletons)

We’ll look into that possibility. We are limited to the total number of skin slots for both the Heroes and Villians sides. And, of course, unless it’s an “easy” skin variation, I’m not sure we have the bandwidth at the moment for something more complex.

this is a real bitch, enough headaches has given me, get to level 60, and I have the 58, I have bought all the dcl, character, setting, and I’m tired of the game, this is not fair, I have a life , work, walk out there, it makes me lose confidence I had in you, I really enjoyed your games, I’ve met people very guai, but I you are carrying the essence of the game, which magnify 75000 OMG, as if that was much, sorry but I leave with this message and enter the uncharted least, for I have suffered much, void, half load, glass jaw, and you want now reaching 80, you are going very freak out, for me this has been finish. Mate, roman numerals just don’t work like that…

I’ll agree that the XX icon could be prettier, but, it’s been set in the Uncharted 2 levels that above level 50 is a roman numeral, meaning “Roman Numeral + 50”. They could write LX for level 60, and LXXX for 80, but its too crowded… XXX is just as good, but “Z” won’t cut it… I would rather go with some Japanese numerals, pretty easy, you put 八十, there, you have 80 in two characters. ^^ (and, for like, 78, 七十八, three characters, not too much as opposed to LXXVIII) Though that is maybe too far-fetched and if you haven’t studied Japanese...it will seem weird.

lets say 2 months (i got to lv60 in 2 months)

to get to lv80 u need 363 million....

so it would take around....8 or 6 months (because the money cap is increased) would u ever spend 8 months for this $h!t?

Well you can say goodbye to me in Uncharted 2 online. This isnt my only game to play, and with 15 milion a level, BITE ME! I loved this game till you had to screw with it in this manner. To get from 59 to 60 was already a pain in the tookus, now thanx to this crappy nadjustment, i have 21 pains to look forward to. Actually i dont, i wont be playing any more, i have a life and its not all encompassing around this game.

To each and every player i have met and played with on-line, its been real, and its been fun, but till Uncharted 3......TRKrTREET OUT!

Screw this, once I reach level 60 I’m taking off BoH’s, I don’t want to reach level 80! Way to unobtainable. I would say lower the cash rate inbetween levels to be more obtainable.

Well, the flat rate between the new levels and the higher cap are plusses, but I still say adding new levels above X was a poor decision. More things to earn cash towards would have been incentive enough without devaluing the X and moving the horizon.

Don’t get me wrong - I’ll still be enjoying the game, but with the less attainable new goal, I’ll feel less compelled to play so much once I re-earn my 100% trophy completion.

I’m appreciate all you guys are doing to retain interest in the game, but I fear that adding more levels likely will do the opposite.

The only way this will work is if the cap is raised in some type of permanent fashion that isn’t a meager amount (75K? LMAO), or double/triple xp weekends start coming a lot regularly. This is also a swift kick in the balls to those who just reached 60 rather recently like myself. But the online portion of this game has been nothing swift (and numerous) kicks to the balls to the userbase since 1.05, but I’m sure that’s a well known thing at ND studios by now.

Summary plz, version: New money cap blows, new level cap increase blows, this game…

not so hot. :\

If it’s not too much trouble please consider additional boosters,co op upgrades, taunts, skins to make the leveling more rewarding.

Also, is it possible retuning the money award for co ops? specially on crushing? w/o the honor boosters, leveling through co op is virtually impossible. A 40 min crushing co op yields 15-25k while a 10min Deathmatch yields 75k now.

Either way, you have my thanks for your continuous support of this wonderful game specially since you’re not even collecting monthly subscription from it.

I love the game, but these upper levels are impossible to even reach… please consider lowering the amount of money needed to level up; I calculated and I would need to play almost every day for a year and a half to get to level 80. Furthermore, I agree with ToiletDuck2012 that the co-op needs to be more rewarding, and that you should add more boosters. Otherwise, great work.

ND, I think the whole level 80 idea is horrible. Plain and simple. People used to work so hard just to get to level 60, and now this. I also believe The level 60 (X) icon looks way better that 61-80. Level 60 was obtainable. Level 80? One person out of around 300, 000 has enough money for level 80. I was looking forward to getting to level 60 but now it’s not very cool. I honestly believe you should change it back.

Hey arne and crew, I actually like those skins, but I think it takes way, WAY too much money to get from one level to the next after you reach level 60. The end-of-match money cap has thankfully been raised, but I feel that it’s still not enough for the amounts we need.

As it stands now for those other eighteen levels, we get no rewards and no new boosters. The game will get old fast and lose its appeal if we’re forced to level up this slowly. I know your space and bandwidth are limited, but if you can give us some more skins for the higher levels (maybe 62, then 64, and every second level), it would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, if you make new hero skins, please no more Drakes. How about an alternate costume for Elena or Chloe? There’s only two of each, and in a rather confusing move, you gave us wetsuit Drake but not wetsuit Elena.

As a final note, it’s freaking impossible to tell what level people are with these new badges once they get past level 60. The numbers on them aren’t visible at all, and a badge like 57 can’t be told apart from 67 even when one is over top of the other on the leaderboards. Maybe level 60 should still be a black badge with a white X, but 50-59 and 61-69 should use the numbers and the roman numerals should be reserved for levels 70-80.

Otherwise, it’s good to see a lot of updates and new content. It’s just that it all needs some working out and changes as it settles in.

Example:

- Dispel Evasion And Able To See All Enemies Through Walls Without Pressing Up (Close Range Only Like Situational Awareness)
- Special Ability For Grenades To Have Bigger Explosion Radius

BoH:

- For Lv59s: Worst Accuracy For Long Weapons (Not Including FAL And Sniper) Like The Opposite Of DTI (Booster Slot 2 + $17.500/5 Kills)
- For Lv53: Reload Slower For All Guns (Booster Slot 1) ($12.500/5 Kills)
- For Lv55: No Autoaim (Booster Slot 2 + $20.000/ 5 Kills)
- For Lv56: Double Damage Taken From Guns (Not Melle) (Booster Slot 1 + $17.500/ 5 Kills)

Ok do the math nd… With 50,000 a match we would have to play hundreds of games just to get to 70… So do you really think 25,000 more will help come on… And like uncharted said only one no life bastard has an 80… And if you made a level hundred he’d probably already have it… So only people with no lifes would have 80s… You guys probably thought it was reasonable cause you play the game and get payed for it… But we don’t, we try giving you our opinions but they keep on being overlooked…

ND, instead of making a new level cap, make that there aren’t glitches, i played 3 games and the 3 all glitched, other people have the same problem. I’m really fed up and I lost 160 k. You want that a lot of people play your game, but you punish them for playing!!
You have HAD a good game, not anymore. Nobody asked for new levels, we were happy, the level X’s just wanted new boosters and free skins. If you want a good game, listen to the players and learn from them. There’s is only 1 player that is lv XXX, gloomcool, gratz for him. But who will ever reach that level, if you have a live. People were proud to say they are level X on Uncharted 2. And if you want to keep going on with the levels, increase the max/match to something like 250k-300k , and you should earn more from negative boosters. I and a lot of other people, hope that you listen one time.
It would be also a good idea to give a double cash each friday for example, only an idea, but if you want a lot of players, it’s a good start.

like the fact its now lv80 but i really hate that ive gota put up with sa for another 21 lvs. was looking forward 2 having evasion as a permanent 1st booster but as i will have to use come get some to maximise earnings ive gota put up with it. i think its only fair if you desighn a 2nd booster that pays 20k-25k so we can use evasion. invalid/glass jaw sucks as they wait then melee u once and ur dead. half loaded is pointless 12.5k a time. please please come up with a new booster for slot 2.

75k is still not nearly enough to make it to level 80.. I know that I wanted this for the people who are still playing the game but 15m for one level is way too much.. hell I made it to level 42 and got only 2m and I’m already tired of playing the game..

You could have at last raised the cash limit to 150k as minimum… :s

Since there are 20 more levels to attain, could you at least adjust the money needed to get to 60? Bring it down a bit and raise the cap to $100k. I’ll never even try for 80. But since there are those who will, let them work hard for it. I just want my Donut Drake :(

I’m sorry, but this is BY FAR the worst thing Naughty Dog has done to this game, I thought I was finally done with negatives, but apparently not, you know how long it took me to reach 60 even when I always used negatives? I’ve played U2 for 7 months and I didn’t even get to enjoy the highest level for 20 days. I give up, seriously the level 80 badge sucks anyway it reminds me of pornography. Not original, and this new level cap is NOT COOL AT ALL.

You need 362 millions to get 80 right ?
Per match cap 75 000

If i make 75 000$ per match, i need 4840 match.
A match takes 15 mins ( with the time you need to wait to find teammates )
So i need to play 72 600 mins, it gives 1210 hours.
I play 2 hours per day ( somedays less), i need 605 days to get lvl 80 ?!

2 years to get level 80 ? And next year uncharted 3 shall came out ?

ah big LOL.

ND do you know that people have life’s ? We are not all no-lifes who are playing 12 hours per day....

Yeah, ND, I’ve been fairly positive with my praise before… but this update lacks the creativity and good will your other updates have had. All the math points to one thing, this is an unreal goal for anyone, and really just depends on people playing ungodly amounts of time rather than place any skill in it (though I will acknowledge that there are those who will achieve this through skill, but the match cash cap makes that seem irrelevant).

ND, If you want us play longer, take queues from other games (I know a lot of people will hate me for saying that), but why not keep the level cap at 60 (to late now I guess) but put more incentive into the trophies!

Part of the reason I kept playing the single player was to get that final platinum trophy. If you can put some other groups of trophies I need to achieve rather than continuously grinding with one goal in mind, I would appreciate the idea much better. For example, a Skelzor skin on fire for getting that BBQ achievement or something like that.
How about for people who play co-op, for beating all the stages on certain difficulties, can net you rewards.

What I’m trying to say is, anyone can achieve level 80, but not all of us can afford to put that sort of time into that. Other things we can look forward to netting based on skill, Rather than keep pushing on death matches, flesh out incentive to play some other modes.
