Personally for sites and the like, Disqus works a bit better than linking to PSN accounts just because I think there’s more accountability in comments if you see the person’s real name (mine is DeAno Jackson) than their PSN name, not to mention the sign-in process is a hell of a lot easier and would encourage more comments; it took me 45 seconds to sign into PSN just to post this comment.

I suppose the comment system you use depends on your goals. If your goal is to engage with people who are active in the PS3 community, and who more than likely have made a purchase of a PS3 game, whether it’s a Naughty Dog game or some other PS3 game, then it makes sense to use the PSN login. This is especially true if you wish to cultivate a Naughty Dog community that can crossover from in-game to your blog. Friend discovery is easier if you’re using the same names you use in-game that you use on blogs/forums. If your goal is to make it easier for people outside the active PS3 community to comment and engage with Naughty Dog, then using an established 3rd party comment system such as Disqus or Livefyre makes more sense.

One of the reasons I don’t comment much is because of the required PSN ID login. I don’t participate in PS3 forums at all (though I did post on the ND forums when they launched). I prefer to comment on blogs, and I prefer to use a comment system that I’m familiar with, such as Disqus or Livefyre. I definitely understand a company’s desire to encourage fans to use the user identity that they use in the game to comment on blogs.

if I had to choose, I prefer Livefyre over Disqus, but that’s more personal preference than a feeling that one is significantly better than the other.

It’s really annoying not being able to talk about not being able to play U3 because PSN isn’t working, because PSN isn’t working.  Having some form of alternate login would be great.  On the other hand, I think it’s good for a PS3 developer to associate accounts with PSN accounts, if only for the ability to show stats.  So the ability to create a PSN plugin should definitely be a consideration when choosing a new comment system.

That said, I don’t have any experience with Livefyre, but the Discus login process seems a bit buggy on occasion.

I’m confident in whichever way you choose. Personally I’m a fan of in-house developing. Linking it to my facebook doesn’t matter to me, but I would still come here anyways so I wouldn’t use it any more or less if it were integrated.

What’s up everyone, Jeremy from Livefyre here. I think it’s pretty legit you guys are having an open discussion about which solution to implement. It’s all about what the community wants and needs. It’s obvious the folks at Naughty Dog know what they’re doing and I can tell from the comments you all know what you’re talking about, too.

Of course my opinion may be sprinkled with just a hint of bias, but I think ya’ll would love Livefyre, and personally, I’d love to have you. From the real-time nature of our product for live blogging events and discussions to our social sharing/integration for including friends and brands in your comments to easy sign-in methods for quick access to the discussion, we’ve worked hard to make conversations exciting, socially integrated, and most of all high-quality. Feel free to drop me any questions, I’d be more than happy to answer them, and even give a walk through of some of our features.

Also, I’m now gaming under RiverCityAggie12 on PSN. Recently, it’s been mostly BlackOps (on a temporary hiatus right now...I need to put the controller down and step away, if you know what I mean!) but I’ll be dipping a toe into the Uncharted waters after playing the demo at Best Buy the other week, so if y’all have any insight for rookie I’m all ears!

I think it’s awesome that you can login on this website to see multiplayer stats and stuff like that, but for commenting a system like Disqus is clearly superiour. I’d vote for making the switch, it’s much easier and has little downsides.

I’d vote for that switch too. PSN stats is great, but the log in process is too slow for me and i think a commenting service would make me a more active user. Plus the features you mentioned.

In order to post my answer to this thread, I’ve had to:

1. Click LOG IN in the top-right corner of a badly aligned DIV.
2. Hope that the PSN server will respond which sometimes doesn’t happen even if PSN itself is up.
3. Enter my PSN ID + password and then actually wait over 30 seconds for the response.
4. Try not to reply to someone else’s reply because after ~2-3 indent levels, the message would be moved automatically to some random place above or below (in the spirit of U3 ) some random reply which isn’t even close to the message I’m referring to.
5. Watch the ugly interface in the process (no offence guys, but you clearly didn’t go for design when writing this system).

That said, I think you can guess what my opinion on having a “real” commenting system is even if it means using my FaceTube, YouBook or GoogledIn account

To make it clear - personally, I often choose NOT to comment on something just to avoid the hassle.

Most of the websistes I use to visit have Disqus, it’ way to popular, but sometimes you have to wait and watch it to load the comment, otherwise they just doesn’t show up(or maybe it was my problem)
People just like to use their PSN ID here, but you can add ut as you said to Disqus.

Off - Topic (is always related to the game so...) In U3 MP you really should do something, the game it’s getting full with people that only play using blindfire and THEY BEAT EVERYONE, even pro’s and legacy people are making it(besides new players), please consider it, reduce the accuracy at least in M9 and AK, they just run and avoid be bullets.
Also there has been two glitches that some people uses.
One is at Airstrip some stay at the truck, that one that drives you to the map and it’s outside of it.
The other one is at London Metro, people are able to stay somewhere, behind a wall that is next of the entrance tunnel, somewhere
Both of them are unable to be shooted.
Thank you ND for make this awesome MP, but be aware of those details.
