Player spawn point updates being rolled out
We’ve started rolling updates to player spawn points on our multiplayer maps to alleviate circumstances where players were spawning too near or in critically advantageous/disadvantageous positions to their opponents.

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard about, and witnessed, an increase of players spawning too close to their opponents or in positions on the map which would place them or their opponents at a significant advantage and result in unfair kills. Of course the flip-side is that you would feel like many deaths were ill-gotten and too easy. We’ve been testing changes to the way players spawn after being killed in multiplayer to alleviate these occurrences.
Throughout this week we’ve been rolling out updates—three maps so far—and we’re testing changes to spawns on other maps daily. We will roll out additional updates to maps on an ongoing basis as soon as they’re ready.
What maps have been updated?
We’re not telling yet. We’re not trying to keep you in the dark—we want to get your thoughts on the spawns as they occur naturally as you play, rather than have all of you focus on some particular maps only. We’re also likely to update some things on the fly for the time being.
Let us know in the comments below how you’re finding spawn positions and timing in your matches right now, and if you are running across any trouble spots with spawns.

Also, getting more off-topic here, is there a plan in the works for fixing glitches on The Fort any time soon? I’m aware that there has already been a fix to a certain one on that map, but there are plenty more.
Not a match seems to go by where there isn’t at least one person Glitching there. It really takes away the fun of the game when we have people cheating to get their kills.

Definitely continuing working on patching up ways maps can be exploited. This is a bit of a slower process these days though.

I know we did (or at least attempted) to fix the known triple boosters glitch. As for the rest, there are no plans currently for adjusting any of those.

i’m not trying to be rude or anything but i don’t think anyone complained about the grenades, so why did you guys decided to change the radius and the damage. Before update 1.06 there was nothing wrong with it it;s just that they would be a little off balance sometimes that’s all… But now all i need to do is roll just halfway through and i’ll be safe from it, i don’t think it is good at all now because if someone is following with a shotgun and i leave a grenade behind all it’s gonna do is make him/her go on his/her knee even if their are literally on top on the grenade sometimes..

What does “Nerfing” SITUATIONAL AWARENESS mean?!?!
It is fine as-is IMHO. Never been “really” easy to use, and you lose other Booster 1 options when using it. So SA is just fine, really!
BTW: If you are lower level, you will have to accept that SA is an advantage until you get far enough along to have it yourself. For some now, EVASION is proving useful believe it or not!

I get spawned killed more then ever, please naughty dog quit messing with it, everytime i spawn i’m getting killed, I’ve even spawned, & a tank instantly killed me, i loved the first set up, i almost never got spawn killed, it feels like call of duty, I’m getting disapointed, because I hate call of duty, & if i want to get spawn killed i’ll play that.

It’s great to finally be having a fix to spawn points..
Just now I was playing a match in the Village, and I got spawned literally right next to to the person I just killed.
Glad to see ND is listening to the fans and are creating a fix for this problem!

This is great news. I haven’t playe don The Fort lately, but last time I did the spawning wa sterrible. I respawned on the side of the map my enemies were camping. And The Flooded Ruins...this othe rguy & I killed each other & respawn litterally, right next to each other.

I remember two times on The Sanctuary map I actually spawned in the same exact spot as my opponent(s) did at the same exact time which really annoyed me because I would either die immediately, get a kill immediately, or would get very close to dieing but a teammate would save me at the last second

The spawning is probably the most frustrating thing while playing right now anyways.
I also respawned with the enemy at the exact same place and exact same time with an RPG deathmatch, which was weird. But yeah, whenever I respawn, I always have to make sure the enemy isn’t 5 feet away from me, which is annoying. Shouldn’t have to worry about that kind of thing, so it’s great you guys are fixing it.

This may be redundant, but make sure you’ve logged out and back in to multiplayer within the last day or so as well. It may take a few days for everyone to achieve parity on that.

Why make headshots more effective? They’re fine the way they are. Besides, if you want headshot kills, use the sniper or d-eagle.

The places that I have noticed spawning issues are the following:
1) The village- I have had frequent spawns in the center of the map next to a column with people eagerly waiting with the sniper rifle, and on several occasions it spawned me either right in front of or directly under the tank (which is a pretty cheap death if you are dead before you have control)
2) The Fort- Often spawns players at either end while someone is camping there
3) The Ice Cave- people spawn on the snow/cliff end right in front of others a lot
Overall though these are minor complaints. It does a great job for the most part of spawning people in appropriate places. Thanks ND for continuing to constantly strive for the best multiplayer experience out there.

But: Your ToDo list is still not done 1) Cash Limit is rediculous. 2) today on village i spawned n front of tank And spawned TWICE on Plaza Right Next to an opponent. 3) WHY have a website that says “the URL has too many segments.” when i try to comment??? You would think your website is compatible with the PS… 4) its odd how you can get a pulldown when your in the air or just let go of a ledge. 5) This NEEDS attention: skeletons and new Chars make NO noise. 6) 3 booster glitch fix 7) glass jaw & invalid one hit punch (Why have 2 boosters do the same thing?) 8) Evasion should be at lvl 49. 9) Extra Health first 3 secs of spawning 10)please, no cash limit

Out of topic but I feel the meelee attacks are way too strong. One punch does as much damage as a grenade from the m32, it doesn’t make sence. It’s like 95% of your health. I just wanted to bring this up cause no one have said it and it’s maybe nice.

I completely agree with this - Melee attacks are overpowered. In my view the Melee should do next to no damage, but leave the victim in a ‘down’ state for a moment. The number of times i’ve been melee killed with a single punch whilst shooting my opponent in the head with a AK is unbelievable (but i think that’s probably a lag issue).
The only ‘melee’ type attack that should kill is a stealth attack.

Awesome, great to hear. Spawns have gotten truly messy… Spawning in front of or in the middle of tanks rolling around. Spawning right next to enemies who are also spawning. Spawning sometimes right next to the chest/treasure and other times at the complete opposite end of the map. Spawning into the middle of a firefight… I wan’t a system to report glitchers and request temporary bans on them or something, or perhaps an option to send off a cinema where someone is glitching so you guys can look at and fix the problem. I hope your working on killing the hover glitch issue…

I was hopping a 40K penalty removal and an introduction of a drop in drop out system!
Why should players pull cables out if they have a button to quit the game?!

Drop in, drop out is something that we can’t put into the game unfortunately, for technical reasons.
The penalty assessment has now been tiered based on your rank (so people with theoretically more cash will be penalized harsher). Either way, the penalty doesn’t apply until you quit consecutively and as long as you keep playing for a while, it’ll reset itself. That being said, we’ve seen quite a reduction in players quitting the game since the introduction of the penalty system.

of course the Fal is in a “really good spot right now,” I mean, why should this accurate 3 burst gun be sooo goood...obviously the AK should be the best gun and requires the most skill...i mean, why shouldn’t the best gun be your default weapon and have the largest bullet spread of any other gun in the game...only those with the greatest of skill can utilize it to its fullest capabilities with such accurate and precise bullets...it makes PERFECT sense for the AK to be better than the FAL…
(and for those who haven’t picked up on it yet...this entire paragraph is sarcasm...now that I know they will never return the FAL...i don’t have to worry about actually coming back to this game and playing it again...i can leave it alone...and btw ND just thought i’d let you know...essentially every team in gamebattles has completely stopped playing this game and doing matches because of these so-called updates you have installed...every good player hates everything you have done and refuses to play anymore...nice job...catering to noobs...ya’ll seem to be like most other companies in where you are only in it for the money and not the actual quality of the product...as long as more people buy the game ya’ll are happy)
anyways...i was thinking about coming back after i platinumed god of war 3...but that’s looking doubtful now...nearly all of my friend’s list has quit as well...us and the GB ladder will be back when 1.04 is back...if it isn’t too late

This multiplayer is still trash until they bring back the old health and, or make it optional. Also bring back the old grenade radius and damage, but give them a set fuse time and take away the ability to blindfire them (just tapping L2). And make the riot shield deflect explosives (because right now they’re completely useless), make it so the hammer and RPG don’t spawn in Elimination, let us carry more ammo for the sniper, bring back the old fire rate for sniper and FAL, give us some more interesting game modes (sinse almost all of them involve standing at posts and capturing them), and make co-op arena have 20 rounds instead of 10. Do this, and the game will be flawless.

That’s a tall order in a lot of ways there. And many of them do affect game balance severely. Not everything can be just changed for the better by going ‘X’ or ‘Y’ thing. There’s a lot of variables that get affected if you change one gameplay attribute.

I personally don’t usually have a problem with the spawns. It’s both killed me and got me kills so it balances itself out. I’m still hoping they change back the fire rate back on the sniper rifle and FAL. Other than that it’s still great. If possible ND I would love a Heist Eddy for the Hero team and a Pinkerton estate map. I guess I should be posting that on the Eye of Indra update but oh well.

What changed the spawn system in the first place? It was fine back in 1.04. Are there sometimes unintended consequences when patches are released?

I just finished playing for 2 hours. PLAZA and ICE CAVE are definitely still bad - you end up spawning right on top of your enemies - you kill them, and they then spawn on top of you - it’s an endless cycle…

Honestly, what was wrong with the way the spawns were anyways? I was getting into it, but now I no longer play Uncharted 2 online period because in the village I get ran over by the tanks more than anything, and I think it’s just plain stupid when I get spawned right beside someone on the opposing team!!! Don’t get me wrong I use to love playing this game, but now I refuse to play it. I’m thinking about trading it in for COD I was so happy when uncharted first came out and everything was peachy. I also have to add that the new grenade radius is just crazy. All I have to do is barely move to one side and I don’t get hit at all. This game doesn’t challenge me anymore. Making it alittle too easy is like pacifying the people who just aren’t that good on online.

Arne, you basically said that the penalty system works well, but just a few days ago I lost 160k and it was never my fault that I was out of the game (connection errors, freezes and stuff).
I think that’s what people complain about. You should only get a penalty if you actually leave the game yourself, not when the game throws you out or so…
Fixing the spawns is great, but as you probably know, I’m also on the side of those who say 1.04 would fix it all. Until then it was the game we bought and the best MP I have ever played.
Now it’s not nearly as much fun as before. Your options are limited since 1.05 if you don’t want to die often. Before 1.05, you had the freedom to play the game as you wanted and there was a way to be successful with every strategy. You simply die too quickly now for some strategies/ways of playing.
Also, I think some of the powerful weapons in this game are underpowered at the moment. The rocket launcher for example: Sometimes you fire a rocket at someone’s feet and it doesn’t hurt him one bit (I watched the replay to make sure). Why is that? It’s a rocket launcher, it’s slow and only has two shots. It should kill everything in a radius of about 2 meters no matter what. I hardly ever use this weapon, but it’s annoying when something like this happens. This is not the only weapon that seems unbalanced at the moment, however, I’m worried that you won’t reply to this comment if I post too much

I think they need to have a penalty system. With only 5v5 a single person not playing, afk or deciding to drop out can totally affect the outcome of the match, particularly in a close match. One person can cause the other 4 people to lose. How is that “fair” to the remaining players.
That said I do think the current system seems unfair to those with bad internet connections. A timed penalty system would be much fairer. Example....you can’t join a multiplayer match for 20 minutes if you disconnect. This would discourage people from dropping out and jumping into the next available game more than losing some money would. It would also be fairer to those that drop out through no fault of their own.

I’m not good with introductions, so I’m just gonna tell you my ideas. First of all, let me just say that I’m fine with the changes to the FAL, but not so much as to the Dragon Sniper. I think it would be better if it was a one-hit-kill deal, but had less ammo. It doesn’t deserve to be called a sniper if it doesn’t kill you in one shot. Secondly, I was in a battle one time in the Sanctuary, and i saw my partner head up that ladder in the starting spawn point, and he did that hovering glitch and hovered all the way to that smaller tower in the background, and then he started shooting everyone! Can you guys make it so that they die when they go over here? Thanks.

I to play a lot less, aldough I have enough time. It has just become so frustrating and “unreal"to play that I just don’t play anymore.
From my ±50 friends, I do also see rarely one still playing UC2. Seems they have all moved along since the 1.06 updates..., which is quite normal...How could you like the game when it has nothing to do with skill, kind of weapon you are holding, but only who has lag and who doesn’t.
Why ohh why ND did you change so much bad things?
Main bad things:
AK overpowered (compared to other weapons now)
FAL useless
Spawns: crasy (crushed the other day by the the tank, did not even now I respawned already???, many time in front of enemy) _> I understand this is beeing fixed…
Grenade: useless (come on, a grenade is a grenade, it should kill like it was before)
sniper: was ok with “one shot” kill (its hard enough to follow sniped in/aimed enemies with this gun, so when you’re spot on it should kill)
Feels like the shotgun has changed as well, not sure if for the better…
ND change it back to 1.04 and:
Sniper: 1 shot = on kill, enough ammo
Grenade: quicker detonation, maybe less grenades (total and respawns to compensate). range as before 1.05 -> maybe this would also make the totaly useless (drop a grenade) booster somewhat more usefull
FALL as before 1.05
Pistols in all maps instead of only some of the maps
quicker 9mm shooting action (a little slow)
hammer: one straight shot= one kill
Desert 5: make it stronger
Quicker “general” aiming! -> now if someone runs from left to right at 30m, its impossible to follow when aimed. This is not normal! People should not be able to outrun aimed in…
and finally drop total 10% health

The lower the health, the more annoying campers we will get. We need more health or a lower weapon damage to make this game better.
The grenades need a timer. Even with the smaller radius, you still have no chance to escape a grenade that explodes right away. A bigger radius and a timer would be best in my opinion.
I’m glad the cheap pistol is not in every map and the desert is a quick two-shot-kill which is okay. The Hammer would be too strong as a one-shot-kill.
The FAL and the Sniper are a bit too slow now imo. Both should be faster. The FAL should kill in three bursts and the sniper in two, just like before. I think it was more balanced that way.
After more than half a year, I do not want to get used to quicker aiming, although it is a bit slow indeed.
No offense. That’s just what I think about your suggestion. But I totally agree with “1.04 back”. What you said just wasn’t really 1.04-like…

It’s rather stupid to have a cap like this, if you use the “Negative Grey Boosters”, you can get 50k whiting 10 kills which can take you like 5 minutes of the game. Right now I am level 57, I have $30milion, but I’m not even half way there to level 60 as it requires $62milion. If the money cap didn’t exist in the past, you should take it off, if it did, I don’t expect you to take it off as the players that did go all the way with the cap to level 60 may get frustrated.

The only other thing in uncharted that needs to be fixed is the lag in almost all games I play on uncharted 2.except for custom and co op games. Thanks naughty dog and please make JAK 4 or whatever you call it for ps3 because that is one of my favorite games that I have ever play and made me decide to be a video game designer.

It’s not the game we bought anymore and personally, I do not have half as much fun since update 1.05 than I had before. I loved the old game, that’s why I want it back and that’s why I’m angry that ND has taken it from us. No one told us things would change that much when we bought the game

They made the game and I paid for it, to have exactly this game, not something else.
And yes, I want to play the very same game that I bought. That’s how it always is. Online-games normally don’t change that much you know. You shouldn’t make such huge changes after five months.
Just a few days ago I played RE5 mercenaries again and guess what, it’s still the very same game that it ever was and the same people, thousands and more, are still playing it.
ND created this game, yes, but with our money basically. They should give us what we want.

except the spawns on the fort, flooded ruins and facility.
DONT FIX THE NADES radius it’s perfect now and people got do deal with it.
Why do a lot of people are going crazy because of the radius of 1 meter? i think its because they cant get a kill after dropping a grenade like a pussy before dying. people got more grenades kill than ak or fal.
I like the FAL too because now people will use it for long range kill and not for 2 bullet kill when the enemy is at 4 meter of them -_- its a long range gun in this game and i like it.

Village continues REALLY BAD with spawning, but so far for me The Facility HAVE THE WORST SPAWN EVER. Again: EVER AND EVER.
Right when you dogs were doing the live update this week I was playing and the matchmaking did a 3x3, 4 players got down by AFK, so I played 1x1…
Now, 1x1 you should spawn ANYWHERE on the map but every time I killed the other guy, I just stand still and BANG, he spawned AT THE VERY SAME PLACE.
My god, the game had the WHOLE MAP to respawn him but keep spawning at my side… I have the Cinema of that, worst bulshit EVER. Result? I spawn-killed him 25 times, ONLY WITH 2 PLAYERS ON THE MAP AND WITHOUT MOVING!
Now, as for the Live Game Sync thing, I have an suggestion: I was playing AT THE VERY SAME TIME you guys were updating and I did not know that, so the game started to look really strange, lots of bad games, lag and all until there was absolutelly NO ONE PLAYING.
So, I played A LOT of bad conection matchs until I realized “maybe I should quit and log again” and that was it, problem solved.
My suggestion is: as soon as there is a live sync update, FORCE THE PLAYERS TO QUIT AND UPDATE, otherwise, as happened to me, we can get REALLY ANGRY with the game without knowing that we need to update and what is the problem with the conection. Even if we are playing and logged on the matchmaking, force us to quit and update.

This is the first time I have ever bothered leaving a message like this, such is how much I enjoy the game, even though it is now laden with some incredibly irritating quirks that belong in a beta product.
I actually thought 1.05 was an excellent update, the bullet sponge effect had gone and the balance was starting to look right, with logical progression and evolution of the gameplay mechanics I thought things where going to get even better with sucessive updates.
How wrong I was! 1.06 is quite literally a joke, I have adapted best I can, I used to be a huge FAL lover (check my stats if you wish) not a camper, I ran round the map. I don’t give a monkeys about my KDR, but now I don’t touch the FAL and stick to killing people with the 92FS as my main weapon; this is an annoyance more than anything and one I can deal with.
What I can’t deal with are some of the things mentioned above by others already, which surely should be addressed, first let’s skip past the fact that this spawn fix has taken so long to rectify.
Grenades - 1.5 metres ought to be at least trialed as a viable option surely? 1 metre blast radius is frustratingly weak.
Bullet lag - I honestly didn’t notice this much until Tuesday/Wednesday gone, ever since then it’s got REALLY bad, this may be system or connection specific my end, but everything else is operating normally and has been doing so for months. Regardless, it needs fixing as it’s ruining the game.
Pull downs - I have had a couple of ‘questionable’ shall we say pull downs before, but my god I am getting some that are laughable now, as in I have jumped far to the left or right of someone off the edge, then my character somehow centres in midair, goes back to the ledge infront of the opponent then gets pulled down, all in a split second!
Cheaters - it would be nice to have somewhere we can mail videos/pictures of people cheating and them be dealt with accordingly. Such as this doughnut called Daxuke, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yh5FOHLLOKY I have several more vids, but what’s the point in uploading if they can cheat and get away with it.

Forgot something: the spawn time should be consistent, ALWAYS 10 SECONDS, no matter what happen. On the new maps specially on Plunder, sometimes you work with your team to kill the entire enemy team, so you can take the Plunder to safety, but within 3 seconds and sometimes WITHIN 0 SECONDS, the entire team respawn!
I know the matchs gotta be a cool battle and all, but if you KILL EVERYONE YOU SHOULD HAVE SOME KINDA ADVANTAGE, and with those crazy timers that dosn’t happen at all.
On The Fort, on Plunder, sometimes the enemy team keep spawning at you side and your team keep respawning AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE MAP? How fair is that? You have to run like crazy while the other just stop, pop, die, rise and repeat all at the very same place.

Why were the spawns changed in the first place? Back in the 1.04 days the spawns were rarely an issue, except maybe the Fort. Also, why are the re-spawn times different on the new maps? I bought the DLC, but do not even use it because of the spawns on those maps. I actually wish I could get my money back.
It is really funny how you guys have managed to take a great game and throw it in the trash. The GOTY awards really went to your heads. I still play, but less and less each day. Same for my friends. You should bring back 1.04 or make it a playlist.

I was playing earlier this morning and THE TEMPLE still has some spawn issues around the bottom area behind the statues on both sides. I saw someone near the hammer, stopped, aimed, and get obliterated by 3 users who just spawned behind the statue right next to me. ICE CAVE is also messed up around the bottom area.
Glitchers: Allow us to report them using the cinema feature. These glitchers have migrated from Deathmatch to Elimination games.

Played in The Facility last night, and the spawning was better (Had to go find the opposing team again!) but it did get a little crowded again towards the end of the match. Played in The Lost City and I swear I kept running right into 3/5 of the opposing team over and over. Maybe that was just my luck, also played in Ice Cave and spawning was fine unless you went in the lower level. Then it got super crazy, two of us spawned right in front of the entire opposing team, and that was the end of that.

Why not just use the spawns in 1.04? Very rarely have I ever spawned behind someone or someone behind my back in 1.04.
I would say I have a bad spawn every game I play in 1.06. People just randomly spawn behind me all the time while I’m having a firefight with someone, I spawn near people and don’t have time to breath after I spawn, groups of the opposite team will spawn in front of me, and sometimes I spawn behind people.
Now with the new maps, you guys are gonna have to figure something out. I don’t play the new maps because of the spawns and people camping on one side of the map in The Flooded Ruins. You could also set damage back to 1.04(I hope I hope) and adjust the damage of the sniper rifle to what it is now. I really get the feeling Naughty Dog wanted people to use this weapon a lot more than anything.It was pretty rare to see people go after the Sniper Rifle in 1.04. Grenade radius should be increased slightly too.
These two updates have killed my K/D ratio. I went from 1.99 to 1.93. Hopefully these spawns help out because I would very much like to play Uncharted 2 again. In the mean time, I’ve playing Resistance 2 again. Forgot how good R2 was.

It is fine as-is IMHO. Never been “really” easy to use, and you lose other Booster 1 options when using it. So SA is just fine, really!
BTW: If you are lower level, you will have to accept that SA is an advantage until you get far enough along to have it yourself. For some now, EVASION is proving useful believe it or not!

One thing that you should absolutely fix is the new Elimination method. Now it’s absurd!!!
The scope of the Elimination game was to defeat the whole opposite team: now it isn’t anymore!
It’s absurd that if I remain the only one of my team, to win I must go to search and kill the other 3 left of the opposite team (or at least two) or I loose the game. They should search me to win instead!!!
It was more interesting that the game ties if no one was able to kill the opposite one left. I know that you made it against the variuous glitchers, but in this way the Elimination is too strange.
