Player spawn point updates being rolled out

Over the last few weeks we’ve heard about, and witnessed, an increase of players spawning too close to their opponents or in positions on the map which would place them or their opponents at a significant advantage and result in unfair kills. Of course the flip-side is that you would feel like many deaths were ill-gotten and too easy. We’ve been testing changes to the way players spawn after being killed in multiplayer to alleviate these occurrences.

Throughout this week we’ve been rolling out updates—three maps so far—and we’re testing changes to spawns on other maps daily. We will roll out additional updates to maps on an ongoing basis as soon as they’re ready.

What maps have been updated?

We’re not telling yet. We’re not trying to keep you in the dark—we want to get your thoughts on the spawns as they occur naturally as you play, rather than have all of you focus on some particular maps only. We’re also likely to update some things on the fly for the time being.

Let us know in the comments below how you’re finding spawn positions and timing in your matches right now, and if you are running across any trouble spots with spawns.

I am extremely happy to hear this Naughty Dog! This game is finally reaching the “perfect” status.

Any news or comments on the following?
+ Making headshots more effective
+ Nerfing Situational Awareness a bit more
+ Fixing the triple boosters glitch (though I’m pretty sure it’s fixed, but some people report to still be able to do it)
+ Bring back the old fire rate for the sniper rifle (but keeping the hitboxes as is).

Also, getting more off-topic here, is there a plan in the works for fixing glitches on The Fort any time soon? I’m aware that there has already been a fix to a certain one on that map, but there are plenty more.

Not a match seems to go by where there isn’t at least one person Glitching there. It really takes away the fun of the game when we have people cheating to get their kills.

Definitely continuing working on patching up ways maps can be exploited. This is a bit of a slower process these days though.

i agree with everybody who is tired with glitches,come on ND i know you can fix this. To all you people who have to do this to win maybe the game is to hard for you just play something else.

people who usually glitch are the good ones because they want to piss other people. The bad here is that they are given a bad reputation like oh this guy has 2.75 kd ratio for example because he cheats. On the side of the cheater he wanted to ruin other peoples game. When they get piss they will quit and recieve a penalty. The glitchers intention is to make people suffer that is why naughty dog needs to remove the glitching 100 percent as much as possible. The penalty should be have a price cut. There is this time that when you are about to start a game the loading screen begins to freeze or stuck. If this person knows less about that it really needs to take a while to load it, then he will quit and recieve a penalty. I always get the connection error all the time. It is unfair for me because i am a devoted player who wants to finish every game, but because of an error i receive a huge minus 40000. I am supposed to be 51 now but because of frequent errors i returned to 49.

No game is perfect, just do like me. Be better than th opponent and no matter the glitch, There is always a neoglitch or a death move to perform no matter where somebody is. Sometimes it involves a little ingenuity. Like in the plaza from the villians side that glitch. Throw a grenade directly at the crease in the wall and it will bounce off the glitch roll and explode the entire glitch wall

I know we did (or at least attempted) to fix the known triple boosters glitch. As for the rest, there are no plans currently for adjusting any of those.

i’m not trying to be rude or anything but i don’t think anyone complained about the grenades, so why did you guys decided to change the radius and the damage. Before update 1.06 there was nothing wrong with it it;s just that they would be a little off balance sometimes that’s all… But now all i need to do is roll just halfway through and i’ll be safe from it, i don’t think it is good at all now because if someone is following with a shotgun and i leave a grenade behind all it’s gonna do is make him/her go on his/her knee even if their are literally on top on the grenade sometimes..
This is something that really needs to be considered, i mean it’s a grenade i don’t need to be right on it for it to kill me..
think about it!!!

I like the fact that your fixing the spawn points that is spot on but don’t make any changes to SA or the sniper(the sniper is balanced as it will get on less you lower the damage) also i would like to get the FAL back to its old firing rate even if you went back to 3 bursts to kill someone instead of 2.
The head shot idea not so much it takes 4 shots with an ak to kill someone, 3 with the handgun, 2 bursts (or 6 shots) with the FAL, 1 with the shotgun (yes you can get a head shot with the shotty) 1 with the DE and 1 with the sniper its as fair as its going to get. The grenades still need to be upgraded just a bit too many campers and no way to get them out of their hiding spots a 1/2 a meter increase would be perfect middle ground. Also Down the irons needs to be put back to its regular setting I hardly use it anymore when Im running with SA now but its a great way for noobs to stand a chance against higher lvl opponents.

You are welcome to disagree with me duckykid5, but I will have to disagree with you. The FAL is FINE the way it is. It takes skill to use now, and yes I DO use it. A +5% bump in fire rate may be helpful, but not necessary. As for the grenades, keep them the way they are. I rarely get killed by desperation grenades anymore. On the other hand I’m forced to throw well placed and timed grenades to strategically flush out enemies or kill them behind cover.

If you really want “noobs” to stand a chance against higher level people duckykid5, you’d want SA nerfed. “Noobs” have absolutely no defense against it.

the range of the grenades aren t the problem its the time it takes them to explode every single time i go for a melee im killed by a grenade at my feet from the guy who i just killed i dont see why you dont use the time it takes for the REVENGE booster grenades to explode for normal grenades that way people would stop getting bullshit kills and deaths. Also NERF the M32 Hammer even with sure foot you will still be killed by it. it has unbelievable splash damage and kills in 2 shots. it also has a 4 round clip so even if you miss 2 shots you can still kill em decrease the clip size by 50% and it would be fine. also just get rid of situational awareness built in wall hax are never a good idea

I disagree with you about the sniper rifle… This is not COD and all this balancing crap is making the game worse and not fun imo. Grenades should kill by standing by them or on them period. Sniper shots should blow your head off or take you down from just one shot in the head. Right now I have to shoot you one time in the head and one in the ass to kill you which is why the 6 rounds is just lame. A lot of people left COD for the fun and enjoyment of this game and not just to have the game revamped into a COD type game. That’s why right now I just play survival, goldrush and missions cause the MF’s are just too serious in deathmatch mode. If I wanted to play with kiddies like that, I would have just stuck to playing COD. Just my 2 cents. take no offense please.

I know that this will probably never happen and that my idea is just ( as the song goes ) dust in the wind but hear me out. sometime when yall at Nd feel like starting a new map from scratch you should build a level with
. A moving train that divides the level into 2 parts and then leaves and returns and leaves and returns
. have the plunder cases on the level be inside of a tipped over train car like that part where elena picks you up
. catwalks, and sniper towers
.call it the station or something

I get spawned killed more then ever, please naughty dog quit messing with it, everytime i spawn i’m getting killed, I’ve even spawned, & a tank instantly killed me, i loved the first set up, i almost never got spawn killed, it feels like call of duty, I’m getting disapointed, because I hate call of duty, & if i want to get spawn killed i’ll play that.

Good to see that spawn spots are being fixed. Hope that they are working on the fort a little too, but sorta wish they’d take it off as well. The game is looking great, I just hope that we can get better players than this one guy I played against earlier. He wanted to do the tripled booster the whole match. Luckily I was able to kick him because he’d throw grenades on occasion that fell right beside me.

Still, I noticed a small glitch after one of those where I had spawned, and then had to wait 10 more seconds while watching my body try to move.

Glad to see this is being done. I have noticed in the past week this has happened alot more as I have spawned right in the path of opponents and been killed instantly again, and done the same to others.

My main problem with spawning is in the village
-there have been multiple times when my friends and I have been spawned under the tank
-the spawns in the middle of the map are the most troubling almost every time I’ve spawned in the center of the map it has been an almost instant death

It’s great to finally be having a fix to spawn points..

Just now I was playing a match in the Village, and I got spawned literally right next to to the person I just killed.

This is great news. I haven’t playe don The Fort lately, but last time I did the spawning wa sterrible. I respawned on the side of the map my enemies were camping. And The Flooded Ruins...this othe rguy & I killed each other & respawn litterally, right next to each other.

Just going to abuse the “reply to this comment” feature.

You guys have been hearing alot of complaints about glitching that might be due to the new airwalking glitch. Airwalking lets you go to places not originally accessible by walking on air. Most of these places, when you get to them, show you a blue screen where you see nothing but the players and weapons, and with this you can shoot at players directly.

I’d hate to see airwalking go because
A. It’s fun to use
and
B. It adds a new layer of strategy to the game.

I’d like to see ND remove the blue screen from the game completely while keeping airwalking around :D

I remember two times on The Sanctuary map I actually spawned in the same exact spot as my opponent(s) did at the same exact time which really annoyed me because I would either die immediately, get a kill immediately, or would get very close to dieing but a teammate would save me at the last second

The spawning is probably the most frustrating thing while playing right now anyways.

I also respawned with the enemy at the exact same place and exact same time with an RPG deathmatch, which was weird. But yeah, whenever I respawn, I always have to make sure the enemy isn’t 5 feet away from me, which is annoying. Shouldn’t have to worry about that kind of thing, so it’s great you guys are fixing it.

This may be redundant, but make sure you’ve logged out and back in to multiplayer within the last day or so as well. It may take a few days for everyone to achieve parity on that.

Why make headshots more effective? They’re fine the way they are. Besides, if you want headshot kills, use the sniper or d-eagle.

The places that I have noticed spawning issues are the following:

1) The village- I have had frequent spawns in the center of the map next to a column with people eagerly waiting with the sniper rifle, and on several occasions it spawned me either right in front of or directly under the tank (which is a pretty cheap death if you are dead before you have control)

2) The Fort- Often spawns players at either end while someone is camping there

3) The Ice Cave- people spawn on the snow/cliff end right in front of others a lot

Overall though these are minor complaints.  It does a great job for the most part of spawning people in appropriate places. Thanks ND for continuing to constantly strive for the best multiplayer experience out there.

But:  Your ToDo list is still not done 1) Cash Limit is rediculous.  2) today on village i spawned n front of tank And spawned TWICE on Plaza Right Next to an opponent. 3) WHY have a website that says “the URL has too many segments.” when i try to comment??? You would think your website is compatible with the PS… 4) its odd how you can get a pulldown when your in the air or just let go of a ledge.  5) This NEEDS attention: skeletons and new Chars make NO noise.  6) 3 booster glitch fix 7) glass jaw & invalid one hit punch (Why have 2 boosters do the same thing?) 8) Evasion should be at lvl 49.  9) Extra Health first 3 secs of spawning 10)please, no cash limit

Out of topic but I feel the meelee attacks are way too strong. One punch does as much damage as a grenade from the m32, it doesn’t make sence. It’s like 95% of your health. I just wanted to bring this up cause no one have said it and it’s maybe nice.

I completely agree with this - Melee attacks are overpowered. In my view the Melee should do next to no damage, but leave the victim in a ‘down’ state for a moment. The number of times i’ve been melee killed with a single punch whilst shooting my opponent in the head with a AK is unbelievable (but i think that’s probably a lag issue).

The only ‘melee’ type attack that should kill is a stealth attack.

Awesome, great to hear. Spawns have gotten truly messy… Spawning in front of or in the middle of tanks rolling around. Spawning right next to enemies who are also spawning. Spawning sometimes right next to the chest/treasure and other times at the complete opposite end of the map. Spawning into the middle of a firefight… I wan’t a system to report glitchers and request temporary bans on them or something, or perhaps an option to send off a cinema where someone is glitching so you guys can look at and fix the problem. I hope your working on killing the hover glitch issue…

You guys have to remember when ND uses the term “balanced” they are referring that any changes made to deathmatch are balanced for all game types such as survival, goldrush, missions and etc. If you took the cap off well guess where everyone will camp out for easy cash? That’s why all these COD type patches are ruining the game experience for all other U2 game type matches...Thus destroying the game imo.

And I’m not enthusiastic to break it up because ND is just fixing mistakes on spawning…

I was hopping a 40K penalty removal and an introduction of a drop in drop out system!

Why should players pull cables out if they have a button to quit the game?!

And what about player’s rights of quitting a game whatever time they want?

Drop in, drop out is something that we can’t put into the game unfortunately, for technical reasons.

The penalty assessment has now been tiered based on your rank (so people with theoretically more cash will be penalized harsher). Either way, the penalty doesn’t apply until you quit consecutively and as long as you keep playing for a while, it’ll reset itself. That being said, we’ve seen quite a reduction in players quitting the game since the introduction of the penalty system.

This is great news!! This has been a huge thorn in my side when respawning in the same place I died only to be gunned down by the same player again :(
I agree that the worst maps for this are The Facility, The Fort, and The Flooded Ruins.  Also, the reduced grenade damage/radius is horrible guys!!  Not nearly as effective as a grenade should be.

Really...REALLY? :( Um....not trying to be a prick since this is ND’s first ONLINE game but honestly this FAL upgrade changes the core game play a lot...not a major overhaul but a lot. of course the Fal is in a “really good spot right now,” I mean, why should this accurate 3 burst gun be sooo goood...obviously the AK should be the best gun and requires the most skill...i mean, why shouldn’t the best gun be your default weapon and have the largest bullet spread of any other gun in the game...only those with the greatest of skill can utilize it to its fullest capabilities with such accurate and precise bullets...it makes PERFECT sense for the AK to be better than the FAL…

(and for those who haven’t picked up on it yet...this entire paragraph is sarcasm...now that I know they will never return the FAL...i don’t have to worry about actually coming back to this game and playing it again...i can leave it alone...and btw ND just thought i’d let you know...essentially every team in gamebattles has completely stopped playing this game and doing matches because of these so-called updates you have installed...every good player hates everything you have done and refuses to play anymore...nice job...catering to noobs...ya’ll seem to be like most other companies in where you are only in it for the money and not the actual quality of the product...as long as more people buy the game ya’ll are happy)

anyways...i was thinking about coming back after i platinumed god of war 3...but that’s looking doubtful now...nearly all of my friend’s list has quit as well...us and the GB ladder will be back when 1.04 is back...if it isn’t too late

stop crying and adapt its no big deal, the FAL requires skill and it is still good u probably havnt given it much a chance or u have no skill, its not a run-n-gun thing like the AK.

Actually nilla, the AK will always beat the FAL with the changes ND has made. The only way the FAL even stands a chance is if it’s being shot from a distance, but even then the AK could get the kill or the player could easily get away because of the FAL’s slow firing rate.

no that is not true cause i took out two lvl 50+(i’ll admit they kinda sucked)out when they used AK by dodging the bullets by moving side to side while shooting them, and u have to time the bursts and press R1 at the precise time.
