Welcome back to the second episode of “The Lab” in July!

I have no doubt a bunch of you will be heading down to San Diego this weekend to attend Comic-Con, but in case you’re not able to attend Comic-Con, consider joining us in “The Lab.”

“The Lab” is open from Friday, July 23, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time is that in my city?) through Monday, July 26, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time is that in my city?).

This episode of “The Lab” promises to be quite explosive with the Grenades Only variation of our standard Deathmatch mode. When we say Grenades Only, we mean grenades ONLY. Every player spawns with 99 grenades – that’s virtually an unlimited supply – to blow up everything in sight. Well, actually make an attempt and try not to kill your teammates. We’ve also disabled boosters for “The Lab” this weekend – it wouldn’t be much fun if just about everybody used Sure Foot, right?

End result? It’s pretty much what I said in our blog post announcing the schedule for July – BOOM.

The active maps for this weekend of “The Lab” are:

The Plaza
The Sanctuary
Train Wreck
The Village

We’ll be opening the Grenades Only discussion thread on the Naughty Dog community forums at about the same time “The Lab” starts this weekend. Be sure to leave your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to play a few rounds!

Grenades ONLY.. No Hammer or other weapon to help you aim? Only arch throws? If so, I won’t play a single match and just continue playing regular Deathmatch. No need to waste my time playing 20 minute arch-throw deathmatches. No boosters either.. No BoHs, no money. Meh, I won’t play Grenades Only at all anyway, I think.

i agree with u man.i dont care if low levels use it but when a guy is over 50 that means he is pussy.im a lev 63 and i get really upset when i see people like 63 or 65 using that booster.eben that girl gloomcool who is a level 80 uses situational awereness and he also glithces and sme told me that he hacked his level

It’s a shame there isn’t any weapon to help you aim like the hammer or a pistol with no ammo, but I’ll still have fun playing this nonetheless. I don’t really think this is a very serious playlist - only being able to arc grenades, everybody spamming them left right and centre, people getting more teamkills than normal kills… I can imagine this being just a bit of a laugh. In other words - AWESOME!

Arc (L2) is not the only way to throw a grenade, you can aim with L1 first also.

Anyway, we’ re gonna see a lot of grenade spamming and many kicks. Does anyone know if there is any cash penalty for being kicked?

Hola ND que esto de granadas nada mas va hacer muy divertido quiero que sea el viernes para usar el laboratorio hasta el lunes, me gustaría que dejaran y volviera el duelo de escopetas que es lo que mas me a gustado del laboratorio solo escopetas, a lo mejor me guste este también de solo granadas, gracias por todo lo que hacen y sigan asi con mas sorpresas

Hey ND are these labs being put out for testing because these will be future game types for all competitive mode. I ask this because I hope you guys put out a poll of votes for the best one because pistol plunder def got my vote.

wow, no boosters and no other weapons? this will be total chaos. I don’t see any place on any of these maps that will be safe. the cover system and verticality are obsolete now. Arne, has the blast radius or strength been tweaked for this mode? I’ll give this mode a try. like tapantaola said, there looks to be “kicks” in this mode and as far as when I have been “kicked” for team killing, I don’t remember getting penalized, but that was some time ago and may be different now.

You do realize I’m not one of the multiplayer game designers right? So however I play online, doesn’t reflect what our game designers choose for the MP.

It’s also not very fair to their talent, skill and hours of hard work to use one of the Dogs ability to play (mine in this case) to paint an untrue generalization to further some sort of argument. I would hate for anyone else here at the studio who plays casually to feel they may be judged similarly for no reason.

I’m just a (usually fairly decent) player when I’m online to boot. Nevermind that MP skill doesn’t translate directly to game design ability and experience.

Nicely put, Arne. Sorry, ShoSho, I don’t fully agree with some of the changes either (I loved 1.04), but that’s a pretty weak arguement since most ND Devs are just casual players playing for fun.

As for the Grenades Only playlist, I am really looking forward to it and will be playing it a lot. Should be a ton of fun. And I’m glad you decided against including Hammers, also no boosters is great too - not because of Sure Foot, though, but because it’ll be a nice break from the Situational Awareness retards.

well as far as i see ur word is gold on mp if u play for 10 months and get to lv 40 that will tell u alot about the mp. its becouse nd lack of plaiyng the game that u or the game designers make the bad decisions. lets face it to many updates, to much lagg, to much situational fagness, guns are overpowerd, and so many more problems. if you had played the game like we did made lets say to lv 55 60 max you will understand what the problems are. but if u reach lv 40 in 10 months then finaly i know why the bad updates on the mp. id be more then happy to show u a list of problems if u are prepared to take criticism. ie shooting thru walls ,corner shooting, sa fagness, if u really care about the game ad me on psn and see what i mean. sureley after seeing what i ahve to show u will go abck to the design team and say. dam boys we have some work to do! ill await ur response here or on psn.

If you won Evil, why do you complain about SHOSHO1019 using shotguns? That is why they are in the game, for people to use. Just because you are good with certain weapons and others are not. I use down the irons and I shoot some one 10 times and they shoot me three times and I get killed. It doesn’t help me at much at all. I guess I suck at this game too. Thought I would put my two cents worth in. Don’t mean much though.

1) You guys are idiots if you think Arne plays on only one account. Have you considered he might play on internal ND development servers as well?

With all of the love and hate Arne gets, if I were in his shoes, I’d play with a second account as well.

2) Go to the forums, there are other ND employees reading everything we say here on the blog and there, too. Arne is in charge of community relations, but not the exclusive way to get feedback to ND.

Sorry Shosho but you’re clearly the enemy here.

The game is fine unless you suffer from a lack of skill at it like you seem to do. There’s a word for people like you, and I’m not gonna say it (but it has 2 Os and rymes with tube).

Your really taking things a bit too far. I mean, 10 months to reach level 40? It would only take you that long if you didn’t play it that much, or if you just plain suck at the game.

Stop complaining because you’re giving everyone a headache.

PS There is one thing the game needs for the next title update. ND, Please give the cinema mode some love as it still needs a rewind button and could use some real-time recording. Please asses this, thanks.

No offense shosho but idc about how good or bad arne is at uncharted 2 multiplayer. But do you seriously need to post a video of arne playing to feel good about yourself? All you do is rush the shotgun the whole match because you can’t aim the Ak-47. The only small amount of respect i have for you right now is the fact that you don’t use situational awarness.

You no your right shosho i have never played with you. However i have seen your montages on youtube. (btw loved the fail montage but thats not the point.) In your montages what did i see????? i saw shotgun pistole sniper and an Ak-47. But you had on Down the Irons yes Down the Irons so i wasn’t impressed with Ak-47 kills you got. And I would love to take you up on that offer for a 1 vs 1 match.

Would sound fun to have, but how about adding a new MP menu. Something that prevents players from using the effects of Situational Awareness. Getting tired of level 59’s and 60’s who have given up on Negatives and prey on those who actually have balls.

Actually I was thinking R1 for Right Punch. L1 for Left Punch, and L2/R2 Left Kick/Right Kick. O + whichever button to protect that part of your body. Triangle to headbutt an enemy. Square + whichever button to make the attack faster, but with a slower recovery. L3 to duck down, and get into cover (roll while moving). R3 for a nut shot that can knock your opponent down(Sure Shot would act as a cup for this attack).

wow.... really… they should of just turned off all the positive boosters and put on negitives.. lol.. i mean might as well get points lots of money every 5 kills then just get 1250.... pretty stupid.... i think i’ll just try playing it a few times and then i’ll go back 2 plunder and deathmatch… its sorta a waste of time

did a cm a few time with nades only but it took forever because of the lack of ammo. start out with 99. its gonna be fun. just remember how fast you can throw nades. ND keep up the hard work.

I love it, its crazy and just plain FUN! Thanks naughtydog for continuing to add things like this to the playing experience. Cheating is still a problem, but after discovering where/how to file a complaint, I feel much better! I look forward to more creative ideas to enjoy!!! Thanks!!!!

This is pretty fun. Endless supply of grenades a pistol with no ammo and no boosters. Awesome. But the screen shakes a lot so it either makes you feel sick or get headaches. Oh and just because you have situational awareness doesn’t mean your a bad player. It’s called using your resources. NaughtyDog gave it to us so we can use it so we might as well use it right?
