Skill is only counted for games played in the specific Ranked playlist. Your performance in the other playlists has no effect whatsoever on your Skill level. Another thing to be aware of – the only thing that the Skill level takes into account is wins and losses. The number of headshots you got, or even kill to death ratio doesn’t affect the Skill level. The game tries to create balanced teams based on the Skills of the players placed in the game. The game also tries to keep parties together, so it will not split up players that are in a party together no matter what their Skill levels are.
It isn’t fun to play in games that are complete blow outs, both for the winners and the losers, thus the Skill system is designed such that it moves excellent players out of the lower Skill levels quickly in order to get them into more interesting games against players that are closer to their actual Skill.
It is important to note, Level and Skill are completely separate. While Skill is a measure of how good someone is at the game, Level is a better measure of how long they have been playing. It is entirely possible for someone with a high Level to have a relatively low Skill level. Also note that unlike your Level which never goes down – unless you start amassing quit penalties – losing in the Skilled playlist can result in your Skill level dropping. The take away from all of this is that more games played in the Ranked playlist, the better the game is at figuring out how you stack up against the other players, and it is able to create matches that are exciting to play. Also the more games you win, the faster you’ll move up in Skill!

Relax. You take the lvl system way too serious.
What counts is how much fun it is for you to play a single match instance. If there is anything to show of with it would arguably be the K/D ratio. The level number could become more of an embarrassment when your girlfriend is playing.
The money stays with your upgrades and since they are cheap you can easily “lock” your hard earned cash there. What you lose is your spare change.
Though I agree with you that the penalty system could be designed in a smarter way because in it´s current state upsets more customers than it helps players in the community.
ND thanks for the great game. Playing it feels good as playing the first c64 games or ultima online 1997 !

Dear ND: One of the players on your site shared this idea with me, and i decided that i should repeat it. he said....: “what about having a game type where either 3 players are yeti’s and the rest are human. or 2 players are yetis and 8 are human. and the yetis can climb fast and throw things( maybe have like a rock that they rip out of the ground when you press L2 or something, my idea, not his 
) and maybe in DLC, have a map that is the cave where marco polos crew died in, and have it dark to encourage stealth, (gunfire will give away your position to other players. i think this would be a great map to have a Tranquilizer gun online. give players 5-6 shots each in the clip if they pick it up. again, my idea, not his.)” thanks ND! :D -bambivirus.

We all need another double cash weekend like Halloween .Where I jumped from level 18 to 31 just in 3 days.And now Im level 35.

Ya I am generally pleased with the changes the game has made although I don’t entirely understand how the punishment -40$k gold system works now, albeit regardless less people are leaving overall and that is a good thing. No more 2v5 or 1v5 for me (I fly solo so I normally am on the losing team lol). Kudos to ND.

i usually double the score of ppl who’re 10 levels higher than me, always get the most kills, and i strategize lots. it happens SO often, ppl dont go to the good camp spots, they run around and die in really bad places where it’d be impossible to get to them, then being the last one on my team ive won the co-op matches countless times on my own. should be some grateful n00bs who just got win points for doin squat. the ranking system has not been kind to me, i get stuck with like… level 1-20 ppl alot and they love to run off and die, accidentally fall off cliffs, throw grenades to clear enemies in hopes they can raise their dead team-mate… well they cant now cos they just blew him up!
i got so mad at 2 n00bs who kept dying near the start of the level, now dont get me wrong, i do my best to keep reviving them. anyway… i was so mad at these guys, i grenaded them at the start of round 10 to solo it on my own… the n00bs have really made the game unpleasant for me and anyone who’s played through the story mode at least on normal should know how not to die. i’m sure i dont just speak for myself when i say 2 n00bs on one co-op round make the game very unpleasant for the one guy that’s actually playing properly 0_o

If you’re having problems with the sync of player or game data, our first suggestion is to go into your XMB, in the “Game” menu and delete ONLY your “Game Data” DO NOT delete your save game. Try that first

Same sh.t to me. Without notice and not my fault that connection was lost. Hope they will repair this. It’ not fair, and it costs a lot of time again to get status and money back. I understand, if people quit by there own, that they get a penalty, but for a bad connection, naughty dog can not close the missing gap, I lose fun on playing multiplayer mode. Maybe some of the naughty dog guys may comment and give their thougts how to bring back my level and money?

lost connection and was informed i’d been deducted 40,000 and not been able to get on since says cannot sync player data anyone else had this and know how to get back on ???

Can you put a skill level for Co-op modes next. I get quite fed up with a copule of level 1’s who don’t know how to complete the objective or get the idol etc. It gets quite tedious can i can’t quit either!

I was wondering why the skill level is not based on kill to death ratio? This is what really says how good someone is. Two people could be on a winning team and make no effort and go up skill levels just because the others won the game for them. Even better, some people may want a high rank on the leaderboard and just lose a lot of matches just so they can play with people that are not at their level to get higher rankings. Personally, when I play the game I want to play with people that are as good at killing people as I am and not better than I am. This makes the game funner and more evenly matched.
