On the heels of the announcement at the 2011 Spike VGA this past Saturday news about The Last of Us has spread onto the internet and into the PlayStation Store.

The reception to the announcement has us all high-fiving and breathing a collective sigh of relief as some of you started to get very close to exposing the truth of just who is behind The Last of Us mere days before the announcement. We're excited to share more details and we can't wait to immerse you in a truly genre-defining experience.

The PS Store has been updated today and will have some The Last of Us content rolling out that includes:

- The Last of Us Announcement Trailer

- Joel Avatar ($0.49)

- The Last of Us Static Theme

If you still haven't seen every suspense-filled, emotionally charged second of The Last of Us announcement trailer you'll be able to download it and watch it in glorious 720p on your PS3 via the PS Store today. Be sure to study the trailer carefully. There are hints about the game and how it'll play in nearly every frame.

A dynamic theme and an Ellie Avatar are on the way. Check back shortly to learn how to get your theme as we'll have details soon. There's a plethora of other content to come as the game develops so be on the lookout.

Revered game director Hideo Kojima even took time to tweet out a USA Today article about The Last of Us.

After the Spike VGAs we had some European media over at our studio to talk about what it now means for Naughty Dog to be a two team studio. Eurogamer posted up their impressions of the transition and details about The Last of Us. There will be more coverage coming from this studio visit so be ready to read other impressions of what's happening at Naughty Dog these days.

We're escatic that the project is out into the world now and looking forward to your reactions, thoughts, and responses!

Please, focus on doing a good single-player mode with plenty of extras, not as in Uncharted 3, in which most of the single-player mode extras (weapons, skins) disappeared, and then if you have enough time and a good idea of how to implement it, add multiplayer. Don’t add it just to sell more copies of the game.

When I saw the reference in Uncharted 3, I actually said you guys either knew about it or, facetiously, you were developing it… I just assumed it was a Sony developer and obviously with ICE and ND tech, probably assisted whoever was developing so dropped in the reference… didn’t actually think you were developing… then you were and, won’t lie, it made me even more excited.

I’m getting more and more excited about this. Kinda Fallout meets Dead Space (or something to that effect). The cordyceps idea is pure genius and I way excited to see how it all came about and go to this point. I honestly like the infected human (host, etc) vs the undead survival games. Fallout was cool and I like the morality features but the NPC baddies always seemed so one dimensional without motive. A parasite really only has one purpose and that gives the premise credibility.

I asked a question via Facebook, but I think my question will be more visible here. I am glad that you are not going to take the Dead Island or RE route with this game but I was wondering if the game would have ressemblances with Cormac McCarthy’s novel, “The Road” ? I personnaly thought it looked like this novel a bit, more than what people seem to be assuming it looks like Will Smith’s I Am Legend, which itself is based on the novel, the last man on earth.

If it feels like The Road, it’s going to be pretty hard on the emotional impact! It won the pulitzer prize in 2007, (the pulitzer is one of the highest regarded literature prizes an author can get). The setting is similar, One father and his boy trying to survive through an unknown cataclysm that has made every survivor a fiend. hunting for food and firearms. the movie released in 2009 stars Viggo Mortensen as the father, whose actual name in both medias is not named.

That was the first thing I thought of when I saw the trailer. I never read the book but The Road movie was rough stuff. Hard to watch, but well done. It’s like a cross between that and I Am Legend.

Im so pre-ordering the last of us first chance I get , online multi could work heroe survivors vs villain survivors (you know like the guy joel killed before they killed the zombie ? ) but it isn’t essential , co-op campaign will always work in a game like this , online co-op would also work endless survival against infected and villain survivors springs to mind but anyway nd about your other game that’s out right now how about some ps store content for that ? some of us are getting impatient lol , i cant play uncharted 3 for another week because my ps3 somehow put a crack in my disc and now i got to go out and buy it again , sure sucks to be me atm :/

To all you morons- yes, MORONS- who think multiplayer would be a good idea for this game then you are completely wrong.

Dead Space 2 is a prime example of how a studio ‘plonked on’ extra content just for replay value or whatever and that deeply affected the SP. To be honest the SP lost quite quickly what was so appealing of the first game.

ND have said this IS NOT A ZOMBIE GAME. Multiplayer has no place in this game apart from co-op which is where I think they’ll take it but I believe it won’t be what everyone is thinking and I am both skeptical and excited to see the results.

If ND push the right boundaries then I believe we could have the first ACTUAL survival horror game we’ve had in what, a decade?

Some fans are hitting right on the nail and some of you are just blind to what this game could be/achieve in terms of game making.

We’ve only seen a trailer after all but I can officially say I am intrigued.
P.S. NO FRICKIN MULTIPLAYER

I don’t think most people are asking for a versus multiplayer. But, if it is a open world survival game there WILL be co-op multiplayer, for sure. ND decided to hype us for more than a year before the game release, they know they have to deliver another masterpiece and they will. P.S FIX THE FAL-SS ON U3 MULTIPLAYER!.(sorry, had to do it)lol

your a moron yourself if you think this game should have no CO-OPERATIVE MULTIPLAYER , it doesn’t need competitive multiplayer but co-op yea it adds life to the game i mean what’s their to do after you get the platinum trophy , this game would benefit from at least a co-op survival mode separate from the campaign

I did say in my comment that I’m skeptical about a co-op MP for this game but I’m excited to see what ND can do.
The way the trailer portrays the characters, they’re both bringing something to the mix which is why it might be heavily reliant on co-op play. We’ll see…

I seriously don’t need any multiplayer or something online, it is all about the singleplayer campaign and how you guys always find a way to present a story-driven experience where I can’t put the controller down till the credits roll. (and if l am allowed to say: there are almost no games out there, providing a story nearly as good as your’s)

With fungus infected people and some more monsters fron ND games, then Last of us do not need MP. I am going to buy it anyway

If you take your time with this game, it will be the game of the year for sure...Uncharted 2 turned out to be junk in my opinion, but you guys at Naughty Dog ‘ Could ‘ make this game so awesome.. Please don’t ruin this game like you did with Uncharted 3. Online would be great too like others say.. I think many people buy games specifically for the awesome online gameplay.. I heard this game will be out Dec of 2012… Great time with the 2012 disasters coming huh? haha… We all look forward to this great game.

I solved the puzzle :D

The one who was dead on the first minute was killed by Joel while Ellie was looking for weapons

So we can say the role for each character is :-
Joel: is the one who responsible for cleaning the way from monsters and crazy people.
Ellie:is looking for weapons and anything dealing with theirs stay alive.

As gameplay:-
you play as Joel to explore buildings and command Ellie to search after cleaning the way from monster.

uhhhhmmm i dont really know what to say about this game, if it is going to be an open world game, i think they should focus a lot in the story and every single little aspects of the SP… cuz yeah sure Co-op or MP could be good or whatever, but not with every single game… to me, a great SP makes the game, and i know that if i play it again im not going to get tired of it… instead if they focus on the MP, its gonna end up like the any other companie, milking something thats really boring and tired. i think this game maybe and only maybe, should get Co-op and thats all, cuz furthermore will drop the value of the game. cuz being honest i know that the most of the new generation of gamers dont even play the SP at all, they skip that only to play MP. sigh.

What about that flashback mappack for Uncharted 3 you guys said you will release ‘’ very soon ‘’ which was btw a month ago ? oh and the game still crashes in cinema mode.If my console will get a YLOD that will be thanks to you guys in ND.Not to mention everytimne i log on to multiplayer i have to re adjust camera settings.

Will you guys listen to your fans and nerf that hack weapon called FAL SS ?

There is too much to fix in Uncharted 3 and from where i am standing it looks like you guys couldnt care less about it.

Please, please, please have a ‘first person’ option, like Fallout 3 does...third person ruins it for me...I don’t want to see myself running about!!.....

.......and re. online......I’ve read some of the arguments......why not just give us the space to share (not too many of us per map) and let human nature do the rest....pair up with buddies...go it alone.... form a tribe even.....and never know how who you meet will react, especially if there is a barter option, i.e. as many reasons to need people as there might be to shoot on sight....

If this is going to be as good as it looks, I will be retiring from reality.......

The FAL-SS desperately needs to be dealt with. I was playing three team death much ready to use the G-MAL, but at the last second I went with eddy’s FAL because there were high levels and I was expecting to fight fire with fire. turns out everyone in the match were using M9s, including my teammate. anyone who says the M9 can compete with this gun is lying. I went 13-1. my 1 death was a back kill. any gun would of taken me out in that situation. Every head to had gun fight was won with ease. not because I was better, but because my gun was. I don’t like feeling forced to use this loadout power weapon out of fear my opponents will be using it as well. I probably just turned 5 more ppl on to that gun BTW, lol :(

I also have cinema as a level 13 picking up an opponents FAL and going 8-1 with it. didn’t know it was over powered at the time. it actually felt really weird then, I just knew it had to be better than the ak I started with…
