UNCHARTED 2 nabs 10 awards, GOTY at the Interactive Achievement Awards

Wow. This has just been an amazing evening—Naughty Dog and UNCHARTED 2 received 10 awards at the 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards, including Game of the Year.

Even though we’ve been out celebrating, this news just can’t wait.

Earlier this evening, eight Naughty Dogs including myself, attended the 13th Annual Interactive Achievement Awards ceremony as part of the D.I.C.E. Summit 2010. We didn’t know what to expect, as we were nominated in an unprecedented 15 categories and up against some very worthy games in every category—2009 was an incredible year for gaming as every game nominated was great enough to win an award. But I know we all wanted to win something, to be recognized, with the hope that the members of our industry, the members of the Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences thought our game was worthy of recognition, hopefully of the Game of the Year kind.

Boy, did they.

We’re proud, honored and exceedingly flattered to have UNCHARTED 2 nab 10 awards this evening:

There will be a better time for a more thoughtful thank you, but we couldn’t wait to tell everyone—thank you to all our fans and community and all our colleagues in the gaming industry for the positive words, the support and the recognition you’ve brought to our studio, our work and our games. It means a lot to us.

Also—a well-deserved congratulations to the many friends and colleagues throughout the industry whose work was nominated or won an award this evening!

We’re not stopping just because we won a crazy number of important awards. We have the great fortune of having an amazing multiplayer community for UNCHARTED 2 that is really important to us. We’ll continue to support that community through our downloadable content and updates to our online modes—however popular or unpopular they may be—to refine UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer and it as awesome as we can.

Too bad you couldn’t keep the update put away until next Thursday, then they probably would have considered letting you have an 11th award. I am pretty sure they had somebody play one multiplayer match this wek, and it ended up being Sniper Rifles and Pistoles, then they said, ‘this multiplayer looks fun, but is crap because snipers can kill anybody!’

No need to get onto him for being truthful. Besides, this is open to anybody, and he’s free to express what he thinks. I also think this guy could be correct, but am really wondering why they bothered to release this so early. Nothing we can do I guess, but I would’ve enjoyed being able to start getting kills for those trophies already.

Fantastic art! It looks just as good as the professional concept art for U2.

Congratulations ND on the thousand awards you won last night. Reading about the “Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering” reminded me of your Naughty Dog 2.0 game engine that you created specifically for U2. The engine could handle more polygons, more objects, more randomized character animations, and have moving planes of environment. That is innovation! It was amazing in U2, heres hoping you make an even better engine for U3!

Off topic (sorry), I bet your sick of hearing about the 1.05 update. After playing it for awhile I can see why you made the changes you did. It evens up the playing field for everyone and makes it easier for noobs to enjoy.

It does need some more tweaking, I guess that we’ll have to wait & see.

Congrats on yet more awards. Thats about 33 game of the year awards now in total.

Congrats ND! You’re definitely one of the gaming industries cream of the crop! I have no doubt that you guys will produce the best quality of games! Although i can’t wait for UC3, please please take as much time as you need so that you can outdo yourselves once again when the next game comes out! Congrats once again! you’re the best!

THE ONLY THING THAT HAS CHANGED IS THE CONVENIENT.

ITS A BIT MORE DIFFICULT BUT NOW YOU CAN GIVE FULL ATTENTIONS TO YOUR OWN SKILLS.

YOU CAN BE MORE FASTER AND YOU JUST HAVE TO BE MORE CAREFUL.

PLEASE DONT CHANGE ANYTHING NOT FOR THE NOOBS!

I’m as good as before the update(about the same K/D ratio), but when somebody starts shooting at you, you are as good as death, dont even try to run to a piece of cover(unless you just need to press circle), but try to trow at least a granade to the attacker and get the afterlife and retatelation medal(or something like that, in dutch it’s called “wraak")instead of nothing.

people who like this quick deaths should play MW2!

Galore you sound like a complete noob with your caps lock, the fact of the matter is although the game has become more realistic, it has lost a fair degree of the skill since any noob can get kills now by jumping other players, its more like COD in that respect (even with little skill you can get kills by just sneaking up behind someone, rarely now do you survive getting attacked from behind).

Btw b4 you flame me in response, my level 35 in ranked and 2.3 KDR competitive pretty much qualify me as a pro. I don’t dislike 1.05, but I certainly don’t like it (the number of errors I have received is astounding, down 120k in 20 minutes).

the only thing seems like crap6 now is the popup in the middle(i dont like it but its ok, its a little bit of motivation(for noobs)). its true it became more realistic and this is my favourite fact. its faster and a bit more tricky. its also true that noob get more chances but if youre really as pro as you think nobody would sneak behind you .

Congratulations guys. As much as I hate what’s become of Uncharted 2 online, these awards were still very much deserved. It was by far the best game of 2009 and it deserves every award it’s got...The only problem is that with 1.05 it’s no longer the best game of 2010. ;] I was addicted to that game since September and in one update you shot that addiction dead - almost as if you’d shot it with your ridiculous new sniper rifle. I leave the game firmly in the hands of your new fans, the ones whose opinions and cash seem to count.

I’d bitch about and mourn the loss of the multiplayer some more but I’ve accepted its death. I’ll be hard at work with Final Fantasy 13 in two weeks or so, so I’ll have a nice distraction.

Despite this bitter disappointment, Uncharted 2 remains one of my favourite games and I’m eagerly awaiting Uncharted 3. Thanks for the good times Naughty Dog.

Congrats ND, even though im still mad at 1.05, it is the best of 2009. But expect 1 less sale though as far as the dlc goes, I now only play Uncharted 2 Among Modern Warfare if my friends are all playing it, I dont play it fun anymore because it just isn’t fun anymore with the update. I now play more mgo and R2, because at least they dont change the game i paid 60 bucks for after about 5 months after the game has been out. And before you call me a noob, im a lvl 60 with a 2. something KDR cant remember since i haven’t played in 3 days, to busy with games that stick to their style and dont change it on the hardcore players.

Congrats and I love the 1.05 update! I am a level 57 game player, and I think the updates were great, they increase the tempo of the game, and even make plunder more of a challenge! There is no such thing as a perfect game, but this comes close imo. I greatly look forward to the 25th to buy the new dlc pack!

I have two ideas of feedback I wanted to share and I’d like your opinion on please.

1. When dodging gunfire you have a split second, and a lot of times when I press “O” to roll out of the way, my character ducks beside a wall, where I get shot when a roll was what I needed. I wish it was two sepereate buttons---One to roll and one to duck.

2. This is kind of two mini ones----When getting choked in survival or gold rush, I press triangle to prolong my life---and as a team mate rescues me, I get freed and end up picking up a gun that I don’t want. And when this happens in the later levels, while being surrounded by gun fire, I get killed trying to get my original gun back :(--- this is something I wish where two different buttons could be used for each command, one to stay alive, and another to pick up weapons.

PartB----When in a MP match, I roll over to quickly pick up a gun that is close to another gun I don’t want, and pick the wrong gun up and then get killed trying to pick up the right gun. I wish we could creat a “block” list on our characters that we can adjust. On this block list, we could “X” out a type of gun that we don’t want are character to pick up, so that anytime we roll over a gun we want, they will always pick that one up and ignore the one we dont want. This could be beneficial because there are some weapons I just never use and this way I don’t lose precious time trying to repick up the right weapon---kinda like having a contact lens fall out during the match and being like ‘wait guys, this isn’t the right one, lemme keep looking then I’ll be ready.”

P.S....I’ve always been curious to see how much somebody could max out in money during a match without any cap. I think that would be a record I would want to see.

Congratulations ND, and I really do mean that.

However, Adventure Game of the Year? SP, yes. MP? Hell no. Not now. Camping with the FAL/Sniper, with everyone too scared to enter the middle of the map, isn’t an adventure. It’s an absolute snooze fest.

Looking forward to 1.06.

I would usaully have cared about this but not any more. Once again, you * up the most amazing game in the world. Never playing UC 2 online ever again! Make it, its own play list or at least change it back! I’m not trying to sound like a annoying bitch but seriously ruined the game, campers, glitchers, pathetic damage. Just change it back! I haven’t seen so many of my friends quit a game in a long time. I use to love you guys even bought the DLC but not any more, not getting the next DLC and if you make a third Uncharted I will not be purchasing it.

Naughty Dogs are recognized by their peers, rock on and congrats!

I appreciate how you are respectful and inclusive of other game studios that are inside and outside of Sony. Your games are really hard to put down because they deliver state of the art progress in movie like production of audio, mo-cap video, animation, story and great game play!

I’m supporting you by buying the DLC maps next Thursday and still adjusting to the increased challenge of v1.05 multiplayer without the whining.

Now stop reading the blog and get back to partying!

I’ve been seeing several cheaters(glitchers) playing uncharted, I recorded some even played with the same cheat on different days and nothing happens to them.

I’m getting tired of it already.

Man yous will really need to pull something outstanding in U3 to surpass U2…
Hopefully you will alot of developers are failing to deliver in sequels nowadays…

Another GOTY award. Very nice and all of the awards were certainly well deserved. Off topic- is there any chance we’ll get the original ammo back for the dragon sniper in co-op since it’s damage remained unaffected there since 1.05? Also, it seems as if the helicopter and the tank kill faster since 1.05. Idk how rebalanced weapons would affect that…

Dear ND,

I know you guys are keeping a lot of DLC from us. In the BRADYGAMES Uncharted 2: AT Strategy Guide there’s an error on the single player skins for “Winter Drake”. It has a picture of “Wetsuit Drake” from Uncharted DF in it’s place, can you please let us know when you’re coming out with these BAMF skins since it’s not coming out in the Uncharted DF Skin pack on the 25th? Can we expect these maps our on the 15th of April? Where’s “Wetsuit Elena”, “Sir Francis Drake”, “Doughnut Lazarevic”, etc. We need more DLC now!!! Ah!!

I went and bought a playstation just to play this game and I still love it.

Just wondering could you do a comedy map with different flavored pies as weapons? Sometimes it would be nice to have some other than the first person shooter.

or add little factual history with the treasures where they came from or what they could represent.

Or how about more puzzle oriented objectives for the online multiplayer versions. Part of the fun for me was beyond killing the characters

Well done to all at Naughty Dog! Those awards are well deserved. I’ve had tremendous fun with both Uncharted games.
The first Jak & Daxter was a landmark game on PS2 so we could not really have expected any less Would love to see J&D on PS3.

GONGRATULATIONS ND!!! i have to say i love uncharted as a franchise and u2 was the first game that my mom and my girlfriend wanted to actually watch me play,lol i was like what? making my mom watch me play a video game is an achievement in its self:D

now i’ve heard rumors that you guys are going to have u2 in africa, please don’t do egypt cause its so overused. there were so many other African kingdoms that had their treasures, like ghana, Nubia and so on. please don’t do egypt.

I am Level 60 for quite some time, and have over 35.000 kills. (World Rank #80)

First of all CONGRATULATIONS!! You really deserve all the awards you got. It is the game of the decade.

I will also have to comment on Update 1.05

*Now while I am shootin,g the shoulder changes to the otherside, because of this the gun is not targetting the enemy anymore and you get killed because of that. Please take out “Automatic shoulder switch”

* If someone starts shooting at you, and you try to roll away. It simply doesn’t work nomore, because you die before you can try rolling away.

* People were complaning before that enemy doesn’t die even if you shot at them with AK47 (30 Bullets). Now any player can kill TWO enemys with 30 bullets. I think ND needs to find the middle. Before then enemys weren’t dying quick enough (everyone comnplaining, you can hear through headset), now they are dying too quick.

* Before the update almost noone was using the sniper. Now you should feel lucky, if you find one. Reason ----> 1 shot = 1 kill

* GLITCHES
When will you start punishing glitchers?
Some players are only using the glitches.

* Since the update 1.05 noone over level 52 is really using any minus booster. What is the reason for that? Let me answer.... THE NEW MEDALS. Now by plundering, people get enough money so that they don’t need to use any minus booster. It looks like there is no need for the minus boosters since the update.
I played from level 52 to 55 with “invalid booster” Long time suffering with that booster… now it is unfair, that the other players don’t need to use it anymore, because they get enough cash without it anyway.

I hope things will change in a better way with update 1.06
