UNCHARTED 2 playlist update and “The Lab”

Our first playlist update for UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer has just been pushed out to the "All Competitive Modes" playlist.

At the same time, we started this weekend's episode of "The Lab" - RPG-7s Only - early!

If you've spent any time in the "All Competitive Modes" playlist, or selected this variation in Custom Games, there's a chance you may recognize this weekend's episode of "The Lab" - RPG - 7s Only - from the "All Competitive Modes" playlist as RPG's. Why would we put RPG - 7s Only, which you can already find in an existing playlist, into "The Lab" you ask? Because we have updated some of the gametype modes within the "All Competitive Modes" playlist.

The update to "All Competitive Modes" removed the RPG - 7s Only and Snipers & Pistole gametypes entirely from rotation. In their place, we've added two gametype modes from "The Lab" - No Power Weapons and Desert 5 - Shootout.

The current "All Competitive Modes" playlist now includes:

Chain Reaction
Plunder
Turf War
King of the Hill
Pistol & Grenades
No Power Weapons
Desert - 5 Shootout

We'll be keeping an eye on how the playlist changes shake out - we're thinking of making a couple more updates to the playlists through the rest of 2011!

On top of that, we've launched "The Lab" just a little bit early instead of our usual Friday launch.

“The Lab” is a special, limited-time playlist for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves multiplayer that is active every other weekend. “The Lab” playlist features one or more custom-tuned gametype variations chosen by our game designers to test potential new settings, try out alternate gametypes in a real-world setting or just mix things up for the sake of variety.

“The Lab” is open NOW through Monday, February 28, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time is that in my city?).

RPG - 7s Only is a gametype normally only found within the All Competitive Modes playlist – and only when it’s randomly selected from the broad range of potential gametypes – or within custom games, we’ve decided to give RPG-7s Only it’s day in “The Lab.” Fans of this rocket-propelled explosion fest will now get their chance to play it over and over and over. Boosters are on.

The maps available during this weekend of “The Lab” are:

The Ice Cave
The Lost City
The Plaza
The Village

As usual, we've opened a brand new RPG - 7s Only discussion thread on the Naughty Dog community forums. Be sure to leave your thoughts after you’ve had a chance to play a few rounds!

Hmm, I like this. Replacing 2 cheap game modes with 2 very good ones in All Competitive.

Not sure others will like it though. I know some that liked Snipers or RPGs. However I love the introduction of no power weapons.

Arne, I’m almost always a fan of change, but can you explain the reasoning behind the choice to remove the RPG’s and Sniper Rifle/Pistole game modes from all competitive? Why not Elimination and Chain Reaction? King of the Hill and Plunder?

We play almost exclusively “All Competitive Mode” and even though it was really easy to play Sniper Rifle/Pistole or RPG’s it was also fun.

Why not just add the No Power Weapons and Dessert 5 only to the existing list and add a little extra variety?

I was playing All Competitive modes basically just because of sniper & pistole matches. So I dont like that you removed sniper matches. Desert-5 and No Power Weapons are good modes too but I still like more sniper matches.

I completely agree with you. I love the sniper and RPG matches, they were alot of fun. It would have been better I think If the 2 new game types had replaced say a, King Of The Hill or another ‘Objective’ game. You can already play ‘Objective games’ under the ‘Objective Games’ catagory, Is there really any need to have them in ‘All Comp’ aswell?
More Variety! I’ll miss the sniper matches. And think there’s going to be alot of unhappy people with the changes. I’m one of them.

Also, something I forgot. With no boosters for either of the newly added modes, it will be even harder to acquire the needed funds to level up. It takes a long time to get $15,000,000 for each level, even with boosters, now not having them will make it A LOT more difficult. I’m not against doing the work to get it, but I’m just saying there doesn’t seem to be much logic behind the decision.

Let me preface by saying I hate when people say things are horrible and dumb...However, Desert-5 Only is horrible and dumb...One grenade and ammo is scarce around the map and only 8 in the clip… No boosters… This is pathetic. Also, the random of All competitive is not so random...I just got into my 4th Desert only match in a row.

Gimme a break, if you dont want to put resources to the game,,,, just leave it alone.

The point of dessert 5 is that.
A. You have to be a good shot.
B. You need to salvage and learn to survive on minimum ammo.
C. One grenade is enough for a kill if you know how to use it.

From these points we can gather that.

A. You can’t shoot for shiz.
B. You fire at stupid things like propane tanks just to watch it and then find you have no bullets.
C.You don’t know how to throw grenades.

This leaves you with melee. And since good players play dessert 5 they will likely use glass jaw.

There is no reason you cant play this game without complaining.

I only played “All Competitive” so that I could play the “Sniper and Pistole” and “RPG-7” variations, which you can find no where else. I’m really sad that they’ve been taken out, I thought they were the most hectic fun modes out of all of them. I have no problem with adding in the two labs to the “All Competitive” playlist, but I’m so disappointed that 2 modes were removed to do that.

Why in the world do you guys (NDOG) repeatedly intend to ruin Uncharted 2 more than it already is?!

A LOT of people played All Competitive for the sniper playlist. Why couldn’t you have just added No Power Weapons and Snipers Only WTF… I swear you guys never listen to us fans, or is this an attempt to make Uncharted 2 so bad we have no choice but to purchase Uncharted 3?

Perhaps because we’re doing something with the sniper mode(s)? Also, nothing we’re doing right now is permanent. We’re mixing things up and trying different things around since we’re not doing any brand new Labs. Some may work, some may not. But we have to try.

Dude this company is very small and works hard on the very few titles they release. If your a true Uncharted and Naughty Dog fan you would get the newest game of the series. Besides if they weren’t listening than they wouldn’t be selling so many copies.

Snipers and Pistole gone?.. What? I can’t even believe this and don’t even know where to begin. My absolute favorite mode replaced with rubbish Deserts and rubbish No Power Weapons.
I’ve never been a fan of RPG’s only but I know for SO many people this is a huge favorite. Why would you choose to remove two of the best loved gametypes?

So sad about this. =(

Just wondering, why is Desert 5 shoot out without boosters? Honestly my first match with it today I got 17+ kills thinking I was going to make bank instead I was a few hundred short of 8 thousand… WTF that is not cool. i love using double negatives and for the longest time I thought I still had them on. NO! I don’t know what you’re secretly doing with RPG and Snipers, but I personaly would like to see them in All Competitve Mode up untill they’ve been placed somewhere else. Just saying…

Arrrrrggghhh. I approve of getting rid of RPGs, but removing the best mode in Snipers/Pistoles really is upsetting =(. I hope to see some kind of sniper mode show up in the future somewhere soon (on a permanent playlist).

Very excited about No Power Weapons and Desert Deathmatch being added to All Competitive, those were definitely two of the all time best labs. Also happy about RPGs out, but of course we’ll see what happens when it’s not also the Lab. However, very disappointed about removing Sniper/Pistole from All Competitive. Hopefully that is very temporary, as that is one of the best modes in the game to play.

Will see what happens, either way it will be fun to play, but I really hope Sniper/Pistole returns on a permanent basis.

I think.. seeing as there is so many sniper game modes, that they should have a sniper playlist with all the sniper games. This could be done for other weapons to if they have enough of the games to support the playlist.

I have to admit, I really dislike the removal of snipers and pistole - that was a favourite for me. But oh well, I’m up for a bit of variety! And now I finally have a good chance at getting the elusive mid-air desert five headshot…

And I do love myself some RPG’s only, so I like being able to play that exclusively all weekend. Great money making oppurtunity too, seeing as Half Loaded makes absolutely no difference at all, and Glass Jaw doesn’t either, because no-one goes for melee in RPG’s only - people tend to prefer the close range rpg blindfiring option of suicide :S

this really sucks. Why are you getting rid of the best game types? Snipers and pistole and RPG are hte only game types making this at all worth while. but you keep in the horrible king of hte hill and chain reaction over the best types. I like the additions but not more then the ones you’re taking away. This game just gets worse and worse :(

i always think changes are good.anyhow,i hate when m playing sniper pistole match and m owning with sniper,but then a noob shows up with pistole and kills me!!!!!remove pistole and make it snipers only deathmatch please!!!also introduce snipers only plunder as that was the best gametype i had ever payed just want to say naughtydog u rock!!dont mind what some people might say and complain,the fact at the end of the day is we love you and have full faith in you guys!!

I like changes

When they’re good.

No snipers =(…

Oh well. Waiting to see how else they are mixed. Honestly if you put back snipers make it JUST snipers no pistole and maybe different modes like plunder (but then bring in the beretta I guess).

I’m pretty much done with this game anyway. There is way too much lagg and I just want to play a game with dedicated servers and no BS in the game. And please whatever damage levels with Uncharted 3 you release PLEASE don’t change them 4 months after release or at all after release

I liked it back then to. But I don’t see how rebooting would help. This is just a assumption. But maybe they needed to update to give us new game types? and support the new maps?

Well. If naughtydog got rid of $30+ DLC that so many people brought… They would lose more people then they would have come back.

So that… as much as it would be cool… Might not actually be possible. Not without naughtydog being fined or something dramatic…
( Don’t really know but it sounds possible )

OMG Naughty Dog, I beg you.. Please don’t remove Sniper and Pistole, its my favorite match and only match where I can try my quickscope skills. RPG only is removed and not a problem and no power weapons is welcome too, but please I request you don’t remove sniper and pistole. Its the only match which refreshes the same old struggling to kill someone with ak. It was the best match :(

I’m all for a bit of change… y not!

Although I suck at RPG’s for some reason… I do have lots of fun whilst playing it.

Y not try a few other new ones too e.g

*Grenades Only
*Melee Only
*SAS Only
*Propane Tank Kills only (assisted with 92fs 9mm) would help some people get bbq medal

Why not have crossbows only - (bring it over from single mode.... Must be possible for you clever people at ND.

Uncharted 3 has a DEADLINE. It will not be pushed back. I rather they spend the next 7 or 8 months working soly on that while throwing in a few labs then working on new maps… which they ARE doing… They are just putting them into the new game.
And um… I have never seen the game have less then 30000 daily players. Its normally at about 30,000 -60,000 ( highest I saw it in ages was at 60,000 and was in cash week or something )

wtf!!!!!!!! The sniper gun is my favorite gun!!!! Why in the world are you getting rid of it! sniping requires the most skill...thats why internet montages are dominated by sniper kills cuz it’s the hardest to shoot with. Sniping is for Uncharted 2, as hardcore deathmatch is for COD or Battlefield!
If youre going to take away sniping, are you ever Are you going to make a totally new playlist that allows players to play ONLY special gun deathmatchhs?

Hey there,

Honestly, I’m really disappointed about the removal of the Sniper/Pistole Only gametype… I may not be the best sniper out there, but boy, do I love it. And I do have a lot of fun playing it… snipers are just too awesome! In my opinion, it’s the best Deathmatch variation. As for RPGs, they are fun too.

Anyway, I just really like the Sniper Only variation and think it should be kept… but that’s just my input.

i hate this but if there is a seperate playlist for sniper only i’d love it i might quit playing uncharted 2 and not even buy uncharted 3 if naoghty dog keeps making stupid ideas and changes to the game. For the entire game history ND has listened to the newer players of uncharted 2 complaining about how they die too much from certain game modes and weapons and ND help them. But they dont listen to their players that have been playing for about a year. ND yet another stupid move

This is great news I never really liked any of those modes, since people just camped or glitched inside walls. No Power Weapons is a great replacement, and so is Desert-5 Shoot Out.
I don’t think the game is getting worse and worse, in fact, i think this is another step in the right direction! Keep up the good work ND! I’ll keep playing no matter what!

You completly Messed Up In This Options ND. For me, this weekend will be the last games of uncharted. you started with CR during the 3X cash, in which you forbiden the players to access CR.instead of spending time in finding ways to mess this messed up game, find ways to FIX the Freakin Thing!!!

The removal of RPGs and sniper/pistole is completely ridiculous. Those are easily two of the most popular game types (they are almost unanimously voted for whenever they come up) and are unique compared to other game types. Why would you replace them with two game types that are almost entirely similar to other existing game types? Do something about the useless Elimination and King of the Hill (which no one likes to vote for) instead.

I definitly agree with this change because the RPG’s only was the reason most people never wanted to play all competitive mode. Mainly cause any noob can win in that & i’m not the one to take losses so easy so I will definitly start going to this play mode now for a little bit of a change up in game styles.

Would it be possible at all to raise the kill limit? Or to make a specific playlist with a higher kill limit? Because some matches end too soon! :(

WTF you just removed the two most unique, funniest and probably two of the most popular game modes. So why didn’t you guys make a election were the fans can vote for “We love these two modes” or “No screw them I want Desert and No Power Weapons” or “Just add them to the existing modes”? It shouldnt be that hard to organize?, hu?

This is a pretty good update, IMO.

I really dislike RPG matches (and the speed at which they always get chosen). So it’s good that RPG DM is out of the way for All Competitive playlist.

I really enjoy No Power Weapons, so thanks for adding that, but I dislike the Desert Eagle DM.

I would have preferred it if you had left Desert Eagles out of it completetly, and instead kept Sniper Rifle and Pistoles instead. And I appreciate that Pistols and Grenades have stayed.

Interested in this, because, well, I loved Snipers Pistole :D (Actually, I hated the Pistole, just =3 the Sniper), and when I read this update...:(. Not to mad, but I am kind of pissed that you guys removed DM RPGs. Got a lot of kills to boost my KDR off of that, but whatev.

Oh lord!!!!! This game was perfect until you took out sniper/pistole. Why?? Were ya’ll high when yall did this? **face palm** sniper/pistoles was the main reason a lot of people did that mode!!(ME INCLUDED!!) Now im forced in doing deathmatch… Naughtydog and their stupid ass decisions..........................................................................................

what they should do is make a new playlist and 1 should be all competeitive and the other should be mixed deathmatch that has sniper rifle and pistole, RPG-7, desert 5 shootout no power weapaons grenades only shotguns only, etc. and on that playlist they would have maybe 5 or 6 so if you want special deathmatchs you don’t have to go in all competitve modes to get speical deathmatchs
