Last week we spent a few days giving you a peek into some of the major or important updates we include in Title Update 1.05. With the imminent release of Title Update 1.05 today, February 15, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is that in my city?), we’re publishing the detailed changelist.

Title Update 1.05 includes the following:

Weapon damage and attributes have been rebalanced
On-screen display of medals awarded during a match has been updated
Implemented detection and removal of flagrantly idle players from the active matchmaking player pool
Cash penalty for leaving matches has been adjusted and is now tiered by player level as follows:

Levels 1 – 20 = -10,000
Levels 21 – 40 = -20,000
Levels 41 – 60 = -40,000

Updated player networking protocols to remove all occurrences of “error syncing player data,” Level resets and Ranked playlist Skill Level resets
Added crawling ticker display of leaderboard statistics to the multiplayer menu screen
Updated multiplayer menu screen to include a “Trophy” selection to enable players to display and track progress on the new Trophies included in the Drake’s Fortune Multiplayer Pack
Collision and geometry updates to various multiplayer maps
13 new medals have been added

Defender - Kill a player that is actively shooting one of your teammates
Finish Him! - Get the last kill of the game
First! - Get the first kill of the game
Fly on the Wall - Kill a player who is climbing
No Cigar - Kill the treasure carrier while they are about to score the treasure
None Shall Pass - Get 5 Kills while in the hill during a King of the Hill game
Protectorate - Shoot and kill 5 enemies that were damaging the treasure carrier
Put’em Down - Kill someone in the knockdown state with a pistol weapon
Retaliation - Kill the last player that killed you
That Was Embarrassing - Earn a shutout in plunder
Tip Off - Be the first player to grab the treasure in a plunder match
Tricky - Kill a player with a pistol weapon while hanging
Unlucky - Die 5 times in a row without getting a kill

This lessening the penalty system is one thing but I still get punished sometimes when someone else quits and the game does not continue for whatever reason, or when the game just hangs at the loading screen forever and forced to quit back to XMB. These aren’t exactly uncommon thigns to happen either.

There are also co-op players who refuse to move along to the next area (where all three need press triangle) and pretty much hold you hostage in the game until you quit. Very easy form of griefing and seems rather popular.

Oh, and please stop parties ruining the balance of playing ranked, what is the point playing ranked when you just get a party join and end up with a bunch of low ranks vs high ranks. It defeats the entire point.

I sure hope this update fixes the thing where people get restored to level one and lose all their money - because it JUST happened to me. This is a great game, but there are some serious flaws. I was a level 28, and was enjoying this game alot, but now, i doubt ill ever play multiplayer again.

Just out of curiosity, if someone gets the boot for being “flagrantly idle”, do they still get to keep all of the “Unlucky” medals they earned while they were a sitting duck in the game?

Also, while I think lessening the quit penalty for low-level players was a great idea, it’s almost always the high-level players who seem to quit matches when the team is losing. When you’ve already bought all there is to buy from the ‘multiplayer store’, what does losing $40k matter to you? The penalty should be time-based instead, so that each quit prevents you from coming back into a new game for an increasingly longer time period. This would mean a minor inconvenience for the occasional disconnect, but a major problem to people who quit constantly so they can ‘move on to a better match’.

I’m glad you guys say you fixed the problem with the level being reset for no reason, I just wish you would have done this a bit sooner. Since I was reset from 58 to 1 on Saturday, through no fault of my own.

Ugh, always with the ambiguity. A few patches ago it was “adjusted boosters for balance” and now its “weapon damage and attributes changed for balance”. Why not tell us exactly what you did? You might as well say “In this patch we did some stuff and changed some other things”, because that’s all the information we’re getting.

When it comes to balance and similar things, we want the player community to figure things out on their own for the sake of fairness to the total player base.

So we’ll letting you know that things changed, because folks will notice changes and we don’t want them to think we’re not telling you or that you’re imagining a change.

You forget that only a small percentage of players visit the forums and the blog. I think they’re saying that they want everyone to start out playing the new patch with the same info, whether they visit the site or not. If you want to go above and beyond that’s up to you, but ND doesn’t want to give people any advantage just because they visit this site or the forums for info.

Looking forward to checking out the new update… downloading at the moment. I see the medals page on this site has been updated to include the new medals, but can you guys remove the co-op/competitive filter so I can just see which medals I have and which I don’t on one page?

U can select the two new maps in “custom game” mode, but can’t use them and your progress for the new uncharted 2 multiplayer trophy’s won’t be saved till you get the new uncharted 2 multiplayer pack on feb 25. that means I have to whait till then before the “get 2500 kills” trophy will count..sucks.

Personally, I think if the only weapons that can kill your team are Grenades, it is pretty fair. Even letting bullets not kill your team is a bit easy on us all. I am sure ND doesn’t want people Kicked from games ALL the time from stray bullets. Grenades, Propane Tanks, and RPG’s on the other hand is pretty fair.

Wow I am sorry I can’t even play anymore. I just got disconnected twice in less than 10 minutes. Couldn’t play a single match since patch.

Its official I am trading this game for MW2 with my friend, even though I love UC2, the online is being butchered. Just make it work please, is that to much to ask?

Oh don’t get me wrong I know MW2 is bad, but I mean I play against glitchers in UC2 as well, especially on elimination. At least the game itself doesn’t crash and boot me. Yes it is a sad day, and I personally dislike the COD franchise greatly. But this is what it has come to (if my friend had White Knight Chronicles I would ask for that instead lol but he is offering me MW2).

Way too much focus on DLC and not quite enough focus on keeping glitches fixed, and bugs out so that people who have been playing this since day one don’t get completely screwed over because of a loading screen freeze.

How will the weapon damage changes affect those of us who always use the Invalid booster? More and more higher ranked players are not using the badge of honor boosters lately which can really upset the balance of matches. If some weapons become more powerful it could make playing with Invalid nearly impossible, which would make the problem worse.

I never use badges of honor, I am more interested in winning matches (fairly, I hate cheaters) than making more money. I have everything unlocked, so they can penalize me back down to $0, I could care less.

No, you’ll be matched with other poeple who have the maps. I think that if the game reads that there are atleast 10 people online that have the map pack, then you will be matched up and you will be given the new maps as an option (just like how you choose between old maps now), if not then you play on the old maps as usual.
I think thats how it will be, that how it usually is in other online games.

first off, great job ND. love the game and the post-launch support.

i was just wondering if the scrolling ticker was working correctly. right now i only see my headshots and time played, but in your flicker picture there was more stats like KDR i think. is this because there isnt enough stats to display right now or is something wrong with it?

The new way your shown what medals you’ve earned is awesome very dramatic :D

Trophys-Awesome.

New medals-Awesome.

Ticker at the bottom of the screen-Very nice touch.

That you show Players daily rather then online-Makes it seem better.

Changes to health-Not to fond of it it only takes 2 bursts of FAL now you don’t even get a chance to take cover and ive played 3 games so far and a definite slow-down in gameplay. :(

Does the health changes carry on to CO-OP (CO-OP is getting to easy)

The FAL always killed in 2 full bursts as long as each bullet hit. It usually took 3 because a few bullets would go astray due to lag or whatever. I think it takes less bullets in 1.05, which is why 2 bursts are killing more consistently.

I like the new medals/on-screen display… But you didn’t change the damage at all. In fact, I noticed people taking MORE damage with an AK-47 and an M4 than they did before. However, one guy did kill me in 4 shots across the map with an AK… Maybe you made that better at range, which is entirely inaccurate and broken. I thought you were giving people LESS health because that’s what the community asked for.

I don’t know how 60%+ gets translated to “No, they don’t want health to change”. Tweaking weapons is fine, but not when you do less damage up close and more at range. This is exactly the opposite of what needed to be changed. I absolutely love everything else about the update, and wish the DLC was available this week so I’d have something to kill my time with until Heavy Rain. I just do not agree with some of these weapon changes.

I like the old way of medal displays, because it’s consistent with the single player experience. The new way seems like an arbitrary change, not one that’s any better or worse, in my opinion.

It would be nice to know what you’ve done with the boosters. Playing a guessing game is stupid.

Here take note from another company, ArenaNet. This is how they do updates. They explain what they did and why they did it. Here’s a sample.

Does that refer to fixing glitches? Are you all ever going to start banning people in the game that exploit glitches? The double gold weekends are especially painful to play since the glitchers come out in droves.

I have another question, Are you guys ever start banning people for sexist & immature Clan tags? I don’t enjoy looking at Tits and 8==D as clan tags.

Are player stats even accurate? The website does not show my correct medals (I finally managed to beat co-op on Crushing like two weeks ago and its still not showing up.)

My website profile and the ticker in-game have completely different stats. My profile on the site says I have and the ticker says I have 411.

Also, the Tricky medal doesn’t apply to hanging off of walls does it? Just want to check.

I like what you’ve done with the medals. However, without moving the money cap over 50k, there’s still no incentitive for me to bother to obtain such medals. :(

the stats on the site shouldn’t be more than a couple hours behind at most. lately we had one of the stats data servers (we have multiples) lagging out of sync and it’s been taking a while to get back up to speed. you may be seeing data from that server.

arne, I think you must have some kind of bug (or server issue or db replication issue or something is being cached somewhere), because quite often my friends and I check the site and the statistics are way off. The site header (with level, money, etc) is usually different from the actual stats reflected in the tabbed sections. And hitting refresh will sometimes yield different results.

For example, I’ll go to naughtydog.com, login. It will show stats from days ago, as indicated from a site header showing level 37 when I’m level 40.

However, I’ll go to the match history section, and it will display a match that I just played. But the header will still show level 37.

Then I’ll click a link or refresh the page, and the header will say 40. But then I’ll click another link or refresh again, and it will say 37 again.

Sometimes this persists for 2-3 days. Sometimes for a few hours as you say. It’s really the inconsistency that hurts the usability of the web site stats. For example, after a long night of playing, I can’t check my weapon usage to gauge my progress, because it may or may not be right.

Changing things in an MMO and in a TPS shooting game are different beasts. We strive to provide as much transparency as possible while trying to be fair and increase the learning curve for folks who are looking to exploit aspects of our game.

So the people like myself and a few others on the forums who go through and do these constructive tests and number crunching are doing it for our own benefit? I made those bullet damage lists to help out new players just as much as old players. Why would you want to deprive your players of information? Knowing which weapons do what damage helps new players ease into the game by knowing which weapons they should be looking out for.

takes far too less bullets to kill now, pretty much whoever shoots 1st wins, get shot in back you have no chance of turning and killing them.

2 bursts with fal not 3, 1 hit with sniper anywhere on body.

medals come up right in your point of veiw.

and theres more bad stuff.

They lost a lot of players when cod came out but the ones that stayed did so because its a great game, why change the whole way its played, will lose a lot more players now i’d say.

2 Fal bursts is right IMHO. I mean, it DOES HAVE A SIGHT ON IT! One on sniper is also pretty right! Just listen to it when it is fired! It is more fun when the weapons act as one would expect in real-life!

From what I’m reading on the forums, it now takes considerably fewer shots to kill someone… 6 FAL bullets, 1 sniper shot, 4 from the 9mm, ¼-clip of the AK, and 2 Desert Eagle hits. While this may feel “more realistic” to fans of Modern Warfare and the like, it means that casual players like myself will spend less time ‘playing’ and more time hiding, dying, and re-spawning. It means that if you don’t have expert aim, you’ll enjoy the game much less than before.

I come from a Counter-Strike 1.6 (for PC) background. And coming from there, I always felt like players were “bullet sponges”, so to speak. But I actually feel that reducing the damage should, in theory, help new players, because good players utilize the damage threshold MUCH better than new players. For example, if we required more bullets to kill players, we would see the more skilled players have insane k/d ratios, because they would have even more time to use their superior aim and movement before having to retreat. And new players would never land those lucky kills on them.

And unlike Counter-Strike, this game does not punish deaths. So lowering the health really shouldn’t affect new players. When I first started I just rushed in every time I spawned—my logic was to get a new nade as fast as possible. (I’ve since wised up, but you can see the deficit in my k/d ratio.)

I think this is great, I know I will be able to get at least most of the Trophies, again for some since I already got the requirements.

I just wish now that the Villians had a female, preferably Chloe with her Yellow Vest, since she “was working for Flynn” in the story at that time.

Good idea: Using the new DLC group bundle list (WHY CAN’T SONY GO BACK AND LIST ALL DLC TROPHIES IN ALL THE GAMES LIKE THIS!? *sigh*)

Bad idea: Locking general kills, co-op maps, modes to a $5 two-map map-pack that shows up in your game in machi mode but you can’t use the maps until you buy them!

Oh, yeah, and they still drop your percentage down even if you go by the “group as: base/dlc” lists. The base will show your 100% in the core game, but that doesn’t show up in the main list. Why am I being punished for not having the DLC? Core game in that view mode should only show the core trophy list percent, Sony/ND. :|

Downloaded the new version and haven’t been able to play a single match...it searches for a game then I’m logged out of the PS network....very frustrating day...I was figuring out when I was would move on to something else because I was UC2 addicted...guess that day is today. Bad Dawg!

After playing for about 2 hours I gotta say the update is really great! Tho i have heard rumors about some bugs like in the cinema mode and so on, but you guys probably fix that fast.

all I got to say is.. FACK YOU NAUGHTYDOG ! for ruining my favorite game!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!! It s not my fault that people suck balls at aiming.. why do u have to make the ak stronger and the FAL stays the same… the ak47 is now the best weapon in the game, wats the fakin point on having other weapons on the map. PIECE OF SHIT MULTIPLAYER!

yeah i agree with arlen the fal is much more accurate and better than the ak its the best gun in the game cause i just played and they did reduce helth and i took out a 52 with my fal and he had an ak and no negitive boosters on and im only a level 49

It would be nice if the stats ticker also displayed on pages where there is idle wait time. Such as on the matchmaking screen. The ticker seems to scroll a bit slow to be useful on the initial options page (which I do not spend a lot of time on).

ND you just ruined the best game on ps3 so good job n it used to be my fav too! So im going to stop playing until you figure out how whack it was to put less health on the update let me tell something you know the Badge of Honor Half reloaded? Well it only takes half of the load to kill one person when it used to take the whole thing! So congrats! n GL!

The only problem with this game is Situational Awareness and Glitching. If there was a cap put on Situational Awareness, 1 use total per match, or 1 per round in Elimination, it would be tolerable, but right now it isn’t at all. I shouldn’t have to waste a booster to be “safe” from it either.

This is the only game I enjoy playing online, something like Situational Awareness can stay in Modern Warfare 2.

To my buddies at Naughty Dog,

I downloaded your update, but for some reason after downloading it, the game stays stuck on the loading screen and I have to force reset the game.

It wont let me play. I deleted the update and tried installing it again and the same thing happened ... is anyone else having this problem as well?

Thank you very much for the updates and for the game, I appreciate everythign you do for us.

ARNE, my level reset to 1 when I was logged out of PSN during online. I was lvl 54, will this update fix it? I can’t play right now, can you fix it; I never had the player sync data error thing. it happened after patch 1.04. :(

dont get me wrong ND, this game is awesome. i bought it on day one and i am still playing it. but i do have some criticisms about the game after all these updates.

you said you were trying to make a competitive MP to maybe stand up to the like of COD and what not, but with every update you seem to take away the actual competitiveness by making the guns stronger and what not. you are taking away the ability of skill to get a kill and replaced it with who ever see who first gets the kill. now im not saying that this is the case every time but it is happening, especially with the FAL now only being 2 (full) bursts. with higher gun damage, there is no point in trying to find cover if you are being shot at, you might as well just stand there and let them shoot you, because your chances of escape are very minimal now.

i do wish you would revert back to the setting when the game first came out. i do feel you at it right on the nose from the get go. i wish you would stop trying to please everyone when in the end you seem to please no one, especially the ones who have been playing this game from day one.

again, i still love this game, but it is getting harder and harder to put up with all these changes, just because a few people dont like it.
