Today, Friday, December 18, 2009, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is it in my city?) you will be required to download an update to UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves.

Below is a list of what is different:

Added Version number to game menu – should display 1.03 after this update
Added Clan Tags – all players can now add a custom four letter Clan Tag in the Profile Menu (square) to display on-screen before their PSN ID
Load times have been decreased significantly
Added “Rematch” functionality
Adjusted some Boosters for balance
Addressed issue with Player’s Met screen in game menu and XMB displaying incorrectly
Addressed issue with Double Cash not doubling medal cash rewards

We’ve also made a slew of other changes to improve player experience.

I spoke with our multiplayer lead designer, Justin, to give us the lowdown on what’s so great about a few of these updates. Justin quickly shot me back an e-mail with the following info:

Clan Tags is an addition we’ve been working for a while on. While it’s not full Clan support, we wanted to be sure that everybody can fly their Clan colors within UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer. Support for this is available to all players from the very beginning and can be edited within the player Profile menu – the same place where you choose your boosters.

We have significantly decreased load times . You will notice that the game loads into a map much faster after leaving the vote screen. This will help get players into games faster and keep people playing instead of waiting in the menu system.

We have also added Rematch functionality. At the end of a game, all players will be put back into matchmaking together, allowing you to play the same group of people over again. This decreases wait times, while still allowing people to leave after a match if they so desire. Again, this gets people into games faster and allows more time playing and less time in the menus – all of which is a very, very good thing!

Hmm, these sound like some nice additions/fixes but I was kinda hoping for some bigger news before Christmas… something along the lines of new skins, maps, game modes etc.

Naughty Dog y’all need to fix the roll and hide you can make O button roll and R2 hide since R2 doesn’t do any thing. Every time I wont to roll he hide in the way of a bomb or in front of someone shooting me. or he roll when I wont to hide. please fix this.

Eso no funciona bien. Depende de la proximidad a las zonas de cobertura, muchas veces quieres rodar pulsas O y te pegas a una pared. Botones diferenciados para las dos acciones sería lo perfecto. Uno para rodar y otro para la cobertura.

Thanks so much for the speed-up on the match loading! The long wait has always been one of my few complaints with this game, but you guys just keep making it better. The only other tweak we could use in the loading screens would be to replace the little text tips with an actual description of that game mode - not everyone knows what each game type is about, and it’s not explained in the manual or the menus anywhere.

The other suggestion I’d make for an update would be to reduce the cash value for kills in Objective mode games. A lot of people trying to make their $50k cap are playing Plunder like a Deathmatch because it’s a longer game cycle and they can kill more before the game ends. You may want to consider decreasing the incentive for kills in Objective modes, or increasing incentive to actually do goal-oriented tasks. Trying to capture the treasure while other players do nothing but work on their own leveling (and in some cases even hold the treasure hostage while they make kills) can be really frustrating.

I agree. I’ve always thought adding a medal for an assist to a Plunder score would be sweet. Cause sometimes you do all the work getting the Treasure to your base and you don’t get rewarded for it. But Great job ND AWESOME game!!!

Awesome Naughty Dog.

You could add an in game information thing, saying what the objective of the game modes are. There’s going to be new players coming in (seeing alot already) and they’ll get pwned if they haven’t got in the practice AND they don’t know what they’re meant to be doing.

This is a REALLY good idea! If the load times aren’t too short.

I like having had to figure it out on my own though. I remember one time in Plunder, Green Level Dudes kept running past the Treasure going for Deathmatch-style Kills. I almost fell off my couch!

Will the DLC compatibility problem between european countries be adressed ? Not being able to use something we pay for (ie Rika/Pinkerton skins) is unacceptable (especially when there’s no warning in the product description). Europe is supposed to be same region, and going towards country locking for dlc is a bad road to take.

lenpw is right. Europe is getting all the good stuff. Rika, Pinkerton, Prakoso the pirate and baseball Drake. Please ND stop letting Europe be the ones to get these things. PLEASE!!!! Especially since we had NO WARNING that that Eye of Indra would come out in a bundle and Europe would only get it.

That’s not what I meant. I meant the fact that the dlc is country locked between the europan dlc from the french (or portuguese) store with an european version of the game from the uk, which is unacceptable.

What kinds of Balancing Booster tweaks were done? Sometimes—even with Down the Irons—I can’t Kill a dude with several shots before he gets me with only a few.

Is that fixed?!?!

ND fix your issue with the 40k penatly for connection error with the PSN going down. The PSN had issues last night and everyone was loosing 40k. Myself as well. Here’s just one of the threads on the PSN forum.

Thanks for the updates. I’ve been addicted to UC2. Been playing MP for week and a half and I’m up to level 30. I appreciate your hard work!

Anyways, I can’t wait for new maps to be released. I would like to see a map like Urban Warfare. Hopping from building top to building top and climbing up and down levels in a building would be AWESOME. Close combat would prevail inside the building and on the rooftops, long range. You could even have people sliding down zip lines!

Another cool map would be a jungle type of map with tents and canopies like in Chapter 3. The terrain could include tree house lookout platforms for snipers protecting bases composed of tents. and also included in the terrain could be mountainous terrain.

Ive been playing Naughty Dog games since crash banicoot. it was the only game i played! but this uncharted thing is even better. its better than any other multi-player than the Xbox will ever have. you guys listen… thanks Naughty Dog you guys are the best.

Also, PLEASE include split-screen co-op in the next game. I bought 2 controllers and have nothing to do with the second.

Some times there is one option to vote(gold rush),it Is not well liked by the players,I hope that there will be two options,Who want Survival mode or gold rush mode,Player will choose not random selection Such as what is happening now+,Please

Lots of great suggestions and i am sure ND will consider them all. Thanks ND i love this update. my biggest thing was the wait times and now soon as i finish one match it goes straight to the next. THANK YOU.

As semisanity said with Uncharted 3 can you make a split screen game. With everyone having bigger tv screens i am sure a split screen will still look good. Also i am on level 42 and not to offend anyone (as i am not the best) but with MP can you make something for the newbies to join, eg all the newbies (green level) join a group called Just starting (or something along those lines) .. Reason is just last night there was a guy on level 1 and he got died 15 times and had no killings .. he left the game as expected. So it would be more fun for them as they are just starting out. So players 11+ cannot join those games.. hope that made sense..

Also, better balancing of the teams would be nice. I’ve seen teams where all the elite nerds 40+ are on one team and 20 and below are on the other team. Both are no fun. As John said, it would be nice to have newbies the option of playing with other low level players (not that I’m high level or any good myself).

However one drawback of playing with lower levels is you probably aren’t going to learn as many tricks and strategies as quickly. Even though I’m a level 30 noob (only been playing for under two weeks), I learned where are the good weapons are, advanced battle strategies etc by playing against elite nerds. It’s cool when you are a newbie like me to follow the elite team members to see where they go and what they do.

We were all noobs once and took a beating and learned from it. Good point about strategies learned from these experiences. How many times did you get pulled down from places you didnt know you could. I enjoyed getting beaten by the best. Now, on a good day, I might just get em back…

Yup a few maps is my biggest request.

Like i posted earlier, I would love to see an Urban Warfare type of map with a torn down city (like the Plaza but during the day) and rooftop hopping and climbing torn up building would be awesome.

a couple of weeks I wanted to send you feedback but the comment was not from any basic stored. I find this weekend was very experimental by proposing realistic and the other was trickier. I even think that the shotgun on the laparoscopic could be more deadly.

This is my first online shooter I’ve really played online, but one thing that seems to separate this game is the TPS allows you to interact with the environment better than FPS.

So I hope future maps will incorporate more interact with the environment. Zip lining from buildings, activating some kind of device or explosive etc

ND, For the love of god, REMOVE Deaths from jumps!!!!
i jumped a 1 foot gap & Died! i had no idea what happened so i watched the cinema & seen other people dying from jumping. Please Please Please Please Please Get rid of it!!!

Ok I don’t know what you guys did but the health seems alot lower than before. Not really since this update but this week the health feels alot lower and I’m constantly dying because of it. Please change it back to the original.

I noticed that too, there was an update performed this week because the “Syncing Live Data” message appear a few times on connection. Since then something has definitely changed as the FAL is killing people a lot quicker, It’s not as bad as it was on the experimental weekend but it is certainly noticable.

Everything on this update is great, except the rematch system...at this time (I’m playing while I’m typing this msg) it seems to go to a random rematch.......I don’t like to rematch with the same people that suc-- er I mean not as skilled as some high levels (especially on my team).....other that minor complaint… Keep up the great work ND! Can’t wait for more skins and other DLC next year!

Still having the “unable to join party up” issues, and I (along with many others) keep getting disconnected and losing 40k through no fault of our own.

I appreciate these updates but all this stuff is trivial when compared to gamebreaking issues like these which, despite what you may think, are not as isolated as you may want them to be.

On the positive side you’ve made me angry enough at this game so I can focus on studying, so thanks for that.
