A required Title Update for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves is now up. Details on what’s been changed and addressed after the jump.

As you may have spotted on the PlayStation.blog, the next time you start up UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves you will be required to download an update to the game. (Japan and Asia regions — your update will be available next week.)

Here’s the list of (most of) the changes we made. Some changes have been withheld to protect the innocent.

Addressed respawn points when the artifact goes out of bounds in the Plunder gametype
Dynamically adjust the win condition for fewer players during the course of a match
Added features to deter players from voluntarily leaving during a match
Added rate limit to “When a Chapter is Completed” Twitter event
Fixed a display issue during letterboxing
Fixed Danish Trophy description
Fixed screenshot utility in standard definition resolutions
Fixed the “Players Met” list not displaying recent players
Addressed a variety of Multiplayer connectivity issues

As we said before, there’s some more changes that were made that we didn’t list out, all in the name of improving the UNCHARTED 2 experience offline and online.

i noticed a problem scene they added the 40 thousand dollar penalty i lose 40 thousand dollars when i get disconnected so i was demoted 2 levels because of my internet >< >< >< ><!!!!!!!!!!!! and i was level 39 ><!!!

i think theres prob with the deduction of points when leave match,i have had $132,000 taken from me all 3 was a connection error on another player’s part because his name was black can this be fixed also can dolla b given back, thanks P.S still a mint game

ya this happened to me in the beta, i think its because this game does not tolerate lag, and if it happens it just pauses the game. its kinda similar to what happened in gears of war 1 if the game was lagging too much. it hasnt happened to me since the games release and for me this is one of the smoothest running games i have ever played

Last night i got a total of 80,0000 takin away kuz of bad connection when i usally dont have bad connection. Im thinkin naughty dogg’s really gotta change that penalty kuz it screwed me over several times, yes its a clever idea to punish ppl that leave early kuz yes it screws up the game but i dont think you should take so much money or any money kuz sometimes you dont mean to leave like in my case.

I have yet to be penalized and love the game but this penalty thing is ridiculous. Because of this, I have gone to gamestop and pre-ordered Modern Warfare 2. Can’t wait for it to come out so I can play. I just think it is ridiculous to make someone lose a rank, I mean hit them for 10,000 which is equivalent to two rounds for a better player. Just crazy, they should have taken a poll or something. Not a smart move with such a big title coming out in less than 2 weeks. I enjoy the game a lot but this is a bit ridiculous and ND has gone to far with the penalty. I’m this upset and it hasn’t even happened to me. Please address this ND!

People leave and PP for two reasons...1) They are abusers and don’t want to lose...2) They are drastically outnumbered...I never quit and I am glad ND implemented this feature...people just have to play co-op if they don’t want to play people in competitive...or host custom games...Now I rarely see anyone leave...this is a good thing

why not message ur friend to wait? i mean, if he really wants to play with you, and if he can understand u dont want to leave 4 teammates to win against 5 when u leave or that ull lose 40k now as well, hten he’ll wait. am i rite? and y leave when ur gettin killed too much? being a quitter does not make u better at the game if u dont learn how to fihgt against better players…

you can leave while th game is about to start. if u dont want to play a game because of whatever reason. jsut sign out during hte map vote process or when u see with which players u get paired up. hit the ps button go to ur account hit triangle and signout. itll just take u to the single player screen and u can sign back in there. no penalty,a nd u can go join ur friends party, or b a quitter, or go to work, etc..

letting other players join an already started game sounds like a good idea, but no matter waht, u will always join gtames where the team is losing badly anyway so ull wanna quit out and join another game with the same problems and quit out of that one as well. ull just b wasting ur time not making the money u could have form having stayed in a the first game. it doesnt matter if ur team loses because u can still manage to make more money than the players in the other team.

I know some are quitting and they shouldn’t. I don’t quit regardless of the situation I’m in. Some of the quitter’s you refer to are people who have been disconnected from the server, so you tell me..what would you do?

Jaaake, wazzzup? hehe. oh yeah, when u upload the video u hit triangle and itll take u to a screen similar tot he one with the 20 recent videos, this one only shows the ones u’ve uploaded. from here u can either send the video to any of ur friends or watch it urself. so u can send a friend ur video and tel em to send it back to u so u can have it on ur hard drive.

I too lost 40,000 and on top of that when I restarted my ps3 the next day it dropped me from mid level 23 to level 21!...I hate this game and will not waste 2 hours trying to get it back. Naughty Dog..your Nazi’s

i think what people have been trying to say is that some people have gold ak’s, these weapons do not do extra damage however. try burst firing the ak, i have gotten many really fast kills across map with ak’s that frustrated and confused my opponents. either way i dont think anyone dies as fast as a person would die in a game like call of duty. lastly, know for sure it is ak becuase the fal can be a two shot kill if one of the shots was in the head and the other was in the body.

Just for the record and along the same sort of lines I guess. I would like to make a point about the system/logic for making up teams ( I use these terms loosely). On numerous occassions whilst playing my level 12 Char, I find myself in a team of people all around the same level against a team of level 40’s and above, now whilst I realise that the level has no bearing on the skill of the player , it does however have a bearing on the boosters available, surely there must be something that can be done to get the system to split the teams more evenly ??? I find this rather frustrating,especially as obviously I am always behind as the US got the game before we did.
Any comments would be helpful.

Death Penalty are you kidding me? NO, sadly naughty dog deems it necessary to penalize people who have to quit a match for a number of valid reasons....1. Quitting because they match you up against 5 level 45s and your team is level 5-20. 2. You have a connection error and get signed out of psn. 3. You have to do something that requires you quit the game i.e. take a piss, answer the phone, etc. You get penalized 40000 and that takes like 2-3 hours to get back! Its pure Nazism at its finest, punish people who bought your shitty game and paid your wage! So done with this game

hmm, i like the sound of that. getting some cash per 10 games. i wouldnt say 10k every 10 games tho because 10k would be too much for a lvl 1’s 1st ten games and too little for a lvl ~45. a reasonable amount would be nice. like 1-5k ofr a low level and having the reward gradually increase to about 25-50k for a lvl ~45 and above because having to earn 600k to go from lvls 47-48 just takes to long only making $100-$8000 per objective game and 10k-35k every plunder that pops up.

i have bad connection 2 i went down from a 19-17 :( but i still have my boosters from that level but for some reason it says my savefile is copyed/modfied (probably cause i have a booster at a low level) i hope they patch up going down for connection problems

Back in the before times we had what was called “Punctuation and Overall sentence structure”.I know you new age kids love your emo and Lady Gaga, but I no speaky large blocks of text and as far as them ruining the game.
Your being too dramatic. I know the multiplayer has more flawed logic than Micheal Jackson’s child molestation rebuttal. You just have to grit your teeth and live with it. Cause Naughty Dog, like Bungie, has made their bank and doesn’t care about the fundamental problems.

my son also loves the co-op arena but as it gets late or when he needs to eat his dinner he often has to quit out. I log on later that evening and my char is back to level 1 and has no money, I never discon but often due to poor psn network i get booted on say round 6 of survival ..next day i loose 40k and back to level 1 again.. crazy and I know my connection is stable as i can play every other ps3 game like killzone 2 and such all night long without issue and games like wow and such on PC. Come on ND you have now made it impossible for a casual player to progress past level 6 unless he’s really lucky.

As people have said - the penalty is too harsh.
If you play a game where the teams are unfairly balanced it not fair to be punished so hard for leaving.And the fact the penalty still exists if you have connection problems is unacceptable IMO.
Sort team balancing,implement a system that can detect connection issues/system freezes and THEN bring in the penalty.
The first time I get a penalty for a connection issue is the last time i’ll play the game.

Please fix the penalties for leaving a game. My internet loses connection from time-to-time and sometimes it kicks me out of the game since it can’t re-connect in time. Therefore, I am charged with penalties for leaving the match even when I didn’t mean to. Please do something about this! Please!

Love the update, although punishing players for leaving matches is a bit unfair. Especially if all they want to do it party up with friends, most people arn’t going to wait for someone for 10 mins while they finish thier match =\

The penalty is all wrong for 2 reasons-
1)It’s very harsh.$40k is loads of money.And takes quite a few matches to get that much.
2)The penalty doesn’t recognise the difference between if people quit or if they had connection issues.
Something needs to be put in place so people who have connection issues don’t get punished.Losing $40k if you lost connection is unfair.
The day I lose money if I have some connection issues is the day I stop playing the game.

“I was playing earlier and got disconnected from the game. When I logged back in I was told that I didnt finish the game so I was being penalized $40,000. This is a really great game but how stupid can you guys get?! I know its a pain in the ass to have to play with only 2 people because of quitters, but did it ever occur to you guys that people have lives and emergencies may arise while playing? I think it would’ve been a better idea to limit this penalty to ranked matches only, I mean if youre gonna do this to all game types then atleast have an unranked mode where you’re just playing for fun and not have to worry about being docked $40K. You guys are smarter than that. WTF!”

-Honestly, guys this is just gonna piss people off more as it affects them more & more. I mean, you can’t even quit the game once matchmaking starts so you’re basically stuck with whatever unbalanced game you’re in. CHANGE IT PLEASE!

Some of these updates are very helpful but you didn’t address the most annoying thing about co-op. If three people are playing and one drops out why should the session end and screw the remaining two people out of their earnings? I know that you all can change it so if one person leaves the other two can keep playing and earning. Please do that. Please. When one person leaves a deathmatch round that doesn’t kill the whole session. Why should co-op be treated differently?

Also, about the $40,000 penalty, does the game know how to distinguish a quitter from somebody that was having network or system freezing issues?

I wish to express that I am glad you are penalizing “voluntary quitters” who have ruined many of my online matches. However, you shouldn’t penalize people who experience CONNECTION FAILURES! I do understand that some may take advantage of this potential loophole, so would you PLEASE reduce the penalty to $20,000 or find a new penalty? I NEVER quit games, but I would be extremely pissed to lose $40,000 of my time due to connection issues.

How about just eliminate it period? Am I the only one that thinks this? R1 had just a w8 period and that went just as well as this. Instead of a penalty, have solo players fill lost spots. Then people can quit for the important things they need to and people who suck aren’t penalized.

Their are a number of ways that you too can be screwed out hours of game play, just follow these simple steps. (1) Get signed out of PSN = 40000 gone! (2) Have to answer the phone, take a piss, = 40000 gone! I am one of those affected by the patch. I live in Asia and now my multiplayer doesn’t work at all. It shows all my friends that are playing as playing single player. We can not join each others party. Naughty Dog likes to screw with Asia and their patches, they did the same thing with Uncharted 1.

In short: Love the game!!!

But I’m still having problems with the connection.. Always around 16 minutes I’m disconnected and given a $40.000 fine for leaving the game.. I don’t know what to do and I’m still at level 1.. And that’s really annoying.. I really hope you can help!!!

Good update but can you remove the granade launchers and the RPGs cos alot of people are abusing them, anyway this type of weapons are not good for mp play at all, RPGs should be reduced to 2 shots with no more ammo suply and the nades launchers removed for any mode that is not co-op vs cpu.

The 40K penalty is absolutely ridiculous (as many people point out). I dont want to have to play another 5-10 games only to get the money back which I lost because of a connection error. If by any luck I get a connection error in one of those 5-10 games, I would only lose more and more 40’s until I go broke, so I can start all over again. Unfortunately thats not how I roll, so I think ill permanently stop playing this game online soon as MW2 comes out, this is no fun. Not like this.

I know a lot of people have been complaining about this, and I just wanted to throw in my two cents as well - While I approve of a penalty for people who simply quit a game because it’s too hard or they don’t want to bother, it’s people like me who have connection issues that end up being penalized. I lost $80,000 in 10 minutes because PSN randomly signed me out, and I dropped from a 32 back down to a 30. Now, I do enjoy the game, and I don’t play it merely for points, but it’s really frustrating when I’m trying to raise money for boosters and skins, and then lose all of it because of a connection issue that I have no control over. This is something that really needs to be addressed, because right now it’s doing more harm than good.

Other than that, the updates are great! Multiplayer matches are a blast.

Thanks ND, I really appreciate an udpate that improves nothing and only detracts from my experience.

What possessed you to punish people so harshly for simply quitting a game? I understand there are people who quit near the end of a match when they are losing but this is a small minority compared to people who leave for genuine reasons: Having to leave your console so you turn it of, having to go to eat, being bored with the match you’re in, being in a match full of cheaters, campers or other such people (Which happens WAY more often than people quitting to save themselves a loss), being invited to a party by a friend, wanting to go on the single player, wanting to play a different game. I could go on longer if I felt the need.

There are so many reasons people quit a match and you punish everyone who owns your game (Because we’ve all had to quit matches at some point) because a small minority care too much about their win ratio?

Now, the grenades; THERE’S something that needs improving. Having grenades that detonate less than a second after being in radius of an enemy is NOT a good gameplay decision and definitely not one I expected from a company who’s as talented at game design as Naughty Dog.

I have some suggestions i think are very reasonable and a lot of people will agree with. When the game ends you can go back and look at your score but not how much cash you made or medals, i think it would be good if when you looked at your previous game score you could see your cash earned and medals earned as well. Also, when you are in the pregame lobby, when you click on someone’s name all you can do is mute or mute all, i think it would be good if you could see some stats about that person, such as their cash earned or their Kill/Death ratio. At the end of the game i think you should be able to see the medals other players received, because when i play and i get a certain medal that is rare, i would like to compare and see if others got the same.There is also maps that don’t seem to be put in playlists as much, maps that are not favorites are seen often (train wreck) but maps that everyone likes (sanctuary) are rarely seen.I think these things and other things like this are required to make the online experience rank amongst the best.I am also experiencing the character freezing people are talking about, it causes me deaths and is very frustrating

Seems to me that all your internet connections are crapola!! Ive played all day today and havn’t got connection error all ive had is people leaving the other team when they lose i know some might get connection error but i always get at least 2/3 people leaving and tht interfears with my enjoyment of the game i don’t really care if 1 person has error i always get n00b lvl 40’s who aren’t good they just played too many games and leave in the middle and i think they deserve to lose money for wasting peoples time!!

40k Penalty for connection error? I’ve gotten them all the time, and have since the demo! I just got one that took almost all my online money and 4 ranks worth of time. I don’t want to start another match for fear it’ll wipe the rest out. Two words for this:

ABSOLUTELY UNACCEPTABLE. I WILL NOT PLAY THIS MULTIPLAYER AGAIN UNTIL THIS IS FIXED AND MY 40K AND RANK IS RESTORED.

Way to suck the fun out of it, ND. If only technology were perfect, eh? I can’t count the number of connection errors I’ve gotten in the first 5 seconds of a match!!! This is maddening! I’m with whoever suggested a bonus for it NOT happening. A penalty for something out of my control is not something I will look favorably on. I played single player almost exclusively since the release to get all the achievements. Now I wanted to start building myself up on multiplayer, only to find out I’m penalized for any number of factors that leads to my connection being dropped in the first 5 seconds of a match. Awesome. Really awesome. Fix it.

Congratulations, ND. I played multiplayer today for the first time since collecting the platinum trophy. I am now officially one more connection error away from having all my online work reset to the beginning. Thanks. Really. It means a lot that you worked so hard on this update.

its a shame this game had the potential to be a great online. it was bad enough that it would take ages to find a match before but since the update its got worse. now it regularly tells me that i have to quit the game to check that i have the right type of internet connection (which by the way i do) then when i do get through it takes forever to find a match if at all, i got so bored waiting to find a match the other day that i fell asleep and when i woke up half an hour later it was still searching, and now to make things even worse when playing co-op earlier we all died for the first time and i was sent to the results screen and then told that as id left the game i was being dropped a rank and losing $40,000. these problems need to be sorted now before everyone gives up on the game.

Hi Naughty Dog,

I just downloaded the 1.01 patch and I got an error when trying to connect to the server. Before updating to the patch, I can connect without any single problem. Do you think you can fix this problem ?

Btw, the error said that I need to have a NAT type 1,2 or 3 in order to connect to the server. This is not the problem before I updated to 1.01.

Wow..alot of complains..but i think i agree me and my friend we just played once because we have to wait each other to finish the game...and then he got disconnected in the game and his lvl decrease by 2 lvls...in my opinion pls take out the penalties because alot of people complaining and im one of them...we love the game and we like how to play it..but if this continues..I QUIT!!

Could you please make a patch to fix the screen problem during cutscenes (A green square keeps sliding in and out of view in the top right corner). It’s not isolated as there are numerous posts on different forums about. Love the game but this can be distracting.

Glad to know you guys care about our gaming experience. XD Thanks for fixing those bugs! But, there’s a couple problems that a friend and I noticed. One was in The Sanctuary where we had just finished killing a player and had both happened to dodge roll over there body at the same time at each other. Next thing we know, we’re stuck in place for at least 20 seconds. (I have a picture of this if you need it.) This also happened in the Plaza, but I had tried to take cover behind the wall on the left side of the GAU. The wall sucked me in and I couldn’t do anything until I was killed. Those are the only ones I’ve noticed thus far. Also, awesome job with the Halloween bonus event! I can’t wait to see what you do for Christmas. (I’m seeing Donut Drake as Santa. XDDD)

I have read trough some forum, some said that this update are fixing some minor bug for the multiplayer mode and added penalty system for those who quit during the gameplay. It will deduct 40,000 and 1 level will also be deduct frm your current level. My questions is, what if a person being force to quit the game due to the “CONNECTION ERROR”?

I just want to say thanks to ND for a great game, it has kept me busy lately lol. But i just had one thing to ask, after a match or so; the players i played with do not appear on the “just met” list so i cant add anyone as friends or anyting. Is this noticable on everyones game or just mine? And if so, will you guys change that soon?

horrible news and no updates from arne, and from what I read b4 arne feels that being in a team of low lvls against a team of high levels is a-okay, ah no it isn’t. From my understanding Uncharted 2 has sold over 400k copies, there shouldn’t be an issue with having 10 ppl play together that are about the same lvl(+-5 lvl difference), and the 40k loss for disconnecting, alot of ppl d/c b/c of things that are out of their control, alot of ppl quit when they are unfairly matched up, have u ever noticed a game where no one leaves your team b/c your all much higher in lvl than the other team. Online is a great component, but ND you need to stop ignoring us and actually take in the comments.

I was hoping for a cash loss for quitters but more along the lines of like $10,000 or something. The quitting was just ridiculous before so hopefully this will help even though it’s a bit high as it stands.

A few other issues that need addressing IMO…

1. The grab range when hanging off ledges is ridiculous. Needs to be shortened to something a bit more realistic.

2. Higher movement penalties when someone is being hit by gunfire. People can run through AK fire for a one hit shotgun kill too easily.

3. Team balancing of course. Like others have said, it seems like teams are chosen purely at random. Higher levels doesn’t always mean higher skill but there has to be a way to balance it better. There should also be a separate playlist for full parties. That is the worst to me. If I’m playing with one friend in my party and 3 randoms against a full team, we lose almost 100% of the time.

please fix the 40k penalty I agree quitters should be punished possibly with a long time penalty but when people like me have a dodgy cable that cannot be fixed by the ISP its dishearting to lose so much money and experience I’ve lost 80k in 2 days just cos my internet disconnects occasionally! :(

the game is unplayable now as on some days I’m losing more money n points than I can possibly gain! some days my connection is great maybe only 1 or 2 disconnects but some days its every other game! stop punishing people with rubbish connections ND I’ve gone from level 16 or so down to 11 and lost 120k in 2 days!! and I haven’t quit once please only punish the quitters as opposed to disconnects otherwise your gonna lose lots of players online! I thought uncharted 2 was the best game I’ve played this generation when I bought It but now I can see myself trading it in once I’ve completed the single player as the multiplayer is now completly broken for anyone with even a slight disconnection issue like me!

Again, fantastic game ND.

Never wanted to play an online game before, but after playing U1 and then getting the BETA code, it made me move my internet connection so I could hard wire (ethernet) up the PS3, removing connection issues.
To those who quit because of inbalance of teams, I did my time playing against teams double and triple my rank, and took the 1 kill and 13 deaths on the chin, got killed in ways I had no idea about, and learned from it.
The greatest satisfaction I got was beating players double or triple my level, so take a chance, play smart and good luck.
Being stuck with only 2 players against 5 players is what really sucked because people can’t take a loss, so I agree with the $40K penalty. Having said that, it should be based on manually leaving and certainly not on disconection issues.
Could someone please tell me how to get the Platinum Trophy?

Not sure what it did for multiplayer connections. The single player is awesome no doubt. The multiplayer would be so sick but I can’t enjoy it at all. I can only play the coop matches for some reason. Playing elimination, deathmatch, etc is out of the question. My character freezes way to much. Just when I’m about to make a kill, I freeze and die. Happens 75% of the time. It terrible cuz its ruining the game for me, and can’t wait for MW2 to come out. I would be playing this game, if naughty dog can fix this issue. They said they did, but I’m not seeing any improvement. They made it so you have to wait time/pay money if you want to leave a game, but whats the point of staying in a game if you freeze all the time. All my other online games work and have no problem (killzone 2, borderlands, World at War), and signal strength is 80% or better. Idk whats up, but Im slowly not becoming a fan of this game,
