Co-Lead Designer of Uncharted 3, Richard Lemarchand, just returned from a three week long tornado of talks and speaking engagements. We wanted to share some of these erudite and insightful dives into the creation, development, and evolution of the UNCHARTED franchise. Most of these talks detail the making of Uncharted 3 itself but the nature and practice of game design itself is addressed as well. So if you're a fan of UNCHARTED or a fan of gaming and game design you'll want to check these out.

Richard's talks are spread across the internet in various forms. We've collected some of them here and wanted to share these with you for your breaks from playing Uncharted 3. Hope you enjoy!

Really really great game it turned out to be. Just would like to know if there is going to be any other skin packs other than the three old uncharted 2 ones. Because it would be quite disappointing as I had more interesting skins in Uncharted 2. I know the map packs will be good but the skins were just recycled and noy really customizable. Hardcore fan here.. even on multiplayer but really this is probably only thing tht disappoints. Other than a few minor online problems.

I’m sorry that this is off topic, but I’ve really been disgusted by what I’ve seen around this site the past few weeks. You Naughty Dog folks have clearly poured blood, sweat, and tears into this game. Seemingly, all that the community has given you in return is childish, self-entitled whining. It is perfectly understandable for consumers to be outraged if they are sold a shoddy or misrepresented product, but this game is clearly none of those things. People are entitled to their opinions, and there are probably plenty of valid complaints to make about this game. Yet none of this justifies people demanding that the game get remade to suit their individual tastes, much less demanding that it happen within mere days. I’m sorry that you hardworking and talented people are confronted with this shameful petulance on a daily basis. I hope that you realize that the vast majority of the people who own this game love it for what it is and have strong faith in your judgment. Without your judgment, after all, these wonderful games wouldn’t even exist.

Yes Internet is like this : grumpy speak louder and happy people stay quiet !! Listen critics and avoid childish reactions is the only way to proceed.

I’m an happy people ! Yes the gap between U2 and U3 is not as big as the one from U1 to U2. But definitively your sense of details and artistic vision is awasome. Thanks.

I am playing the MP everyday and I am not getting bored or anything like that. I finish the single player in all modes now. I know this is off topic but as a great fan of Uncharted eager and excited to know, R U planning to design UC-4?

i just read ur flashback pack, really? ur selling old uc2 maps for $25. First, in uc2 we bought dlc maps hr,museum,fr, and facility. now we’re paying for the original uc2 maps in uc3? it’ll probably be better to put out some drake fortune maps instead. atleast that’ll be refreshing and new. c’mon naughty dog dont do us like this. we just spent 65, others 100 dollars on ur game. Anyway i know i’ll buy it cuz i need something new, emphasis on new. but u guys can do better with new features then giving us a price tag like that for old maps. SAD DAY IN THE GAMING WORLD! LOVE THE GAME THOUGH!

Eric-ND can you put up a MP feedback thread when the new patch comes out . Hopefully it will cut down on the endless duplicate threads discussing the same issues. I understand through all the whining and complaining the ND forum has lost its effectiveness in giving constructive feedback. You should still post and update us though as it’s a slight kick in the face when forum threads appear which are just answers you guys have left on other sites like NeoGaf. Intrigued by what this patch has changed and hopefully Sony will be done checking it soon.

wow I loved the second video… every single part of it with the mix between some of my favorite topics philosophy and art It felt like watching a well organized seminar.

Wow that second video was fantasic, this is why i have loved Naughty Dog since i first picked up crash when i only like 3! You guys are just amzing. You put a big grin on my face when you said New Zealand too, thats where im from. I hope Richard come back to New Zealand and does a presentation like Keith did at Armegedon expo one day. It was brilliant meeting him, Be cool to meet Richard too. I hope you guys earn studio of the year you more than deserve it.

i love U3 but i must ask you… where are my U3 Beta awards...Eric from ND, tell me please… on first beta i had 10M xp and i did all of your beta challenges like 5x complete coop and other… i realy wana this stuff. thx for answer eric…

Hey Naughty Dog, you know what I’d like to do? View my Uncharted 3 stats. You know what else I’d like to do? Give my opinion on what should and shouldn’t change in the MP. Or give my opinion on all the things I love in the MP. GUESS WHAT I CAN’T DO? Oh I can see my U2 MP stats. Great. I Don’t play it ever. Thanks

Excellent talk Richard, and thank you for sharing!

Took down a few notes too, looking forward to checking out some of the other references you mentioned particularly Donald Norman, Tale or Tales “The Graveyard”, and the other talks on the act of cinematic experience and performance capture.

Very educational! Now if we could get some of these philosophies over here in Australia that would be awesome.

Sorry I’m writing this here, but for some reason I can’t access forum with Mozzila Firefox. I just wanted to ask if there will be any patch for SP regarding sound cracking, and some minor problems, like loading the game(I sometimes watch that ring flipping for minutes), and loading the animations takes ages instead of instant like it’s supposed to be.
