If you picked up the March 2012 issue of Game Informer or have seen any of the online coverage you might have read about Joel and Ellie’s time spent in an abandoned city they have driven to. We are excited to share a very fresh, very provocative video with you today. This video should answer some of the questions you had after reading the stories about what went down inside those city walls. You’ll get a glimpse into the lethality of the world Joel and Ellie are surviving in and what being a survivor in that world truly means. ...glimpse into the lethality of the world Joel and Ellie are surviving in Joel and Ellie won’t have an easy road ahead on their journey across the U.S. Their path will intersect with other remaining survivors, some of which won’t be so friendly. You camped out on your favorite ledges to earn the kickoff medal on the Highrise and Yemen maps. You’re a pro at sniping fools running carelessly through the Desert Village and Airstrip. You’ve perfected your master ninja stealth kills in the secluded nooks and crannies of the London Underground and City of Brass. Ok, maybe you truly haven’t perfected any of that yet, but perhaps you’re just looking for something different and new. Whether you’re a rugged Uncharted 3 multiplayer fortune hunter or a causal explorer this trailer should get you amped: Four brand new Uncharted 3 multiplayer maps will be available for download on Tuesday, April 10 2012, on the PS Store. We went right down to the wire on putting together a giveaway for PAX East, but our posters are confirmed to be en route to Boston as we speak! You may recognize the poster art from the GameStop exclusive pre-order offer from back before Uncharted 3 was released. We felt it was fitting to bring back the awesome artwork illustrated by Gabe for a PAX giveaway, because, you know, Gabe illustrates the Penny Aracde strips and they started this thing called PAX and... well, you get it. We updated the poster a little bit for the PAX East giveaway - you've got a nice blank border around the artwork so it's easy and totally suited to be matted and framed and placed on a wall in your Uncharted themed room. We've put all the necessary logos outside of the artwork as well, so when (not if) you do frame it, you can showcase the art, and just the art. We're bringing enough for the expected attendace in the Naga Theatre - so everyone who attends our PAX East panel will be Read more...

Our panel, "An Unchated 3 Story: The Chateau, Creation to Ashes" will give you a never beefore scene of The Chateau enviornment. We're bringing some great snapshots of The Chateau during the course of development and will share our decisions that shaped the final Chateau sequencei in Uncharted 3 to a (hopefully) packed Naga Theater. The best news ever is that our panel has been chosen to be streamed LIVE to the internet by TwitchTV! If you can't make it to Boston, you've still got a chance to check out our panel - which is scheduled for Friday, April 6, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. We often get asked for advice on how to get into the videogame industry by our fans. Most of the time we're asked about how to get into a position on the game development team and we do our best to try to give valuable advice. The one thing we don't often discuss is how many other jobs exist in the videogaming industry that aren't directly involved in development. I've personally sat on a bunch of panels talking about becoming a community manager or how to get a job in games journalism, but those still only represent a subset of the full range of jobs available in the industry. Why am I telling you all of this? Because if you're in the southern California area and/or attending WonderCon on Friday, I'm participating in a panel that aims to give you advice on how to take other paths into the industry from panelists who represent different disciplines. This is also a great opportunity to network with a bunch of folks from the games industry and we're all sticking Read more...

Last night on both the PS.Blog US and PS.Blog EU - we posted screenshots from a gameplay demo of The Last of Us that only the staff of Game Informer got to see. Up until now, these screenshots and the overview of what happened in the demo were only available within the pages of the March issue of Game Informer (or the digital version). February has been a month flush with new information about The Last of Us trickling out from a variety of websites, magazines and more that have visited the Naughty Dog studio over the past three months. One of the more in-depth looks at The Last of Us came from the US publication Game Informer, who put together a cover story hub for all the OTHER information they managed to squeeze out of us from a very, very short visit. The most important part of their visit, to me, was that we were able to show a well-polished, nearly Read more...

"Naughty Dog's mission is to change the way people experience videogames."Evan Wells, Co-President There's been a ton of speculation in the video gaming community over the past week about a couple of videos that were released and also housed on the LastofUs.com website. We're very excited to confirm that The Last of Us is developed by Naughty Dog Inc, the creators behind the UNCHARTED, Jak and Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot series. Neil Druckmann, Creative Director, and Bruce Straley, Game Director, gave us all a very, very brief snippet on what to expect in The Last of Us: The Last of Us is a genre-defining experience that blends survival and action elements to tell a character driven tale about a modern plague decimating mankind. Nature encroaches upon civilization, forcing remaining survivors to kill for food, weapons and whatever they can find. Joel, a ruthless survivor, and Ellie, a brave young teenage girl who is wise beyond her years, must work together to survive Read more...

We’ve seen a tremendous amount of feedback during the first few days of the Subway Taste for Adventure full competitive Uncharted 3 multiplayer experience. Many of you drew upon your experiences from the Late June/July multiplayer beta and we have been listening to your concerns. We pushed a new update live today that will address some of those concerns. The changes include that tweaks to kickbacks, weapons, and the timing of sprint. Specific changes are: - Stopping Power is back. - RPG Kickback cost has changed from 8 medals to 10 - Sprint duration has changed from 6 seconds to 4.5 seconds - AK-47 recoil is tuned - G-MAL recoil is tuned Comments have been made about the increased effectiveness of run and gun, but the accuracy has actually been reduced since the Beta. The removal of stopping power is what created this perception. So the old Spray n’ Pray remains true to the phrase. So aside from the turn radius of the sprint, your gameplay Read more...

Penny Arcade and Naughty Dog have been mutual fans for quite a while -- we compiled their Jak II and not one, but two, Uncharted 2 related comics in a post here on NaughtyDog.com way back in 2009. We couldn't be more thrilled to find a way to work with them as closely and as often as possible -- we try to have some sort of presence at every PAX and we sent over an Uncharted 2 Fortune Hunter Edition for the Child's Play Charity Dinner Auction in 2009, among other thing. They're all just a really good crew at Penny Arcade. We've never been able to team up in any sort of official capacity, but that time has now come. As revealed on PlayStation.Blog and by Gabe on Penny-Arcade.com, Gabe put his signature artistic style of a selection of the Uncharted 3 cast for a poster. The ONLY way to grab this poster is to pre-order the Uncharted 3 standard edition or Uncharted 3 Collector's Edition from GameStop - either online or in-person. Check out the full poster artwork Read more...

I can't tell you how excited we were to premiere a new Uncharted 3: Drake's Deception gameplay demo (and reveal) at the PlayStation press conference at Gamescom 2011. We had shown this very demo to a very select group of press back at E3 2011, yet we kept it under wraps until our planned public reveal at Gamescom. If you missed the PlayStation press conference, and my on-stage LIVE playthrough of the cargo plane gameplay demo, check out the video below for direct feed of the same demo. We had a treat for the press who came to our behind closed doors presentations at Gamescom - they got to see what happens to Drake after he climbs back up into the plane. As a special treat to our fans, we brought that same demo to PAX Prime just a week later and showed it off in our Uncharted 3 theater in back-to-back-to-back demos for three straight days! If you missed us at PAX Prime (for shame!), check the video below to see the rest of the cargo plane sequence. While we were at PAX Read more...

Earlier today, July 12, we started getting reports that some users were logging back into the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta and finding that their progress in the game has been reset. Many players have had to re-accept the online agreement when logging in to the Beta and their profile shows they are at level 1, with no XP accumulated or Cash remaining in their profile. We’re actively looking into what caused the issue so we can prevent it from happening in the future. We know this is particularly worrying for those of you who have been working towards to the Uncharted 3 Beta rewards – we’ve reposted the details on the Beta rewards at the end of this post. IF you were one of the players affected by this profile reset, here’s the scoop: The GOOD news is that your progress towards those rewards has NOT been lost – we still have all of your detailed play history by game stored safely and ALL games you have played in the past and are playing right Read more...

With the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta right around the corner, I’m sure you all want to know exactly what we’re putting into the Beta and what you can expect over the three weeks it is active. Speaking of which, the Uncharted 3 Multiplayer Beta will be available for all owners of specially marked copies of Infamous 2 and for current PlayStation Plus members on Tuesday, June 28. We’ll be sure to give you a not-so-subtle reminder when it’s ready to be downloaded. Enough about the Beta! Over the past week or so, since PSN has come back up, we've been looking into an issue with NaughtyDog.com that's preventing all of you from logging in via PSN to leave comments on the blog or log in to the Naughty Dog forums. We're still looking into the issue so we can make the necessary changes (if needed) to make sure everyone can log in to our site through the PSN log in process. Since this has been taking a bit longer than we would have liked, we've temporarily enabled the Facebook Comments box plugin, which allows you to leave a comment on our blog posts through your Facebook, Yahoo, AOL or Hotmail accounts. We'll leave the Facebook Comments enabled until we've properly fixed the PSN log in process on NaughtyDog.com. Unfortunately, this means you're still unable to log into the Naughty Dog forums for the time being. NOTE: Once PSN log ins have been enabled again, all of the past Facebook Comments will not be available on each individual blog post any Read more...

Due to the continuing PlayStation Network outage, we will be postponing this weekend’s combined “The Lab” and Triple Cash event in UNCHARTED 2 Multiplayer until next weekend – Friday, April 29, through Monday, May 2. Welcome back to “The Lab.” Our final episode of “The Lab” in March features the return of Snipers & Pistole, a popular gametype variation we removed from the All Competitive Types playlist a month ago. “The Lab” is a special, limited-time playlist for UNCHARTED 2: Among Thieves multiplayer that is active every other weekend. “The Lab” playlist features one or more custom-tuned gametype variations chosen by our game designers to test potential new settings, try out alternate gametypes in a real-world setting or just mix things up for the sake of variety. “The Lab” is open from Friday, March 25, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time is that in my city?) through Monday, March 28, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time is that in my city?). Okay, okay, so we missed posting the March 2011 schedule for “The Lab” earlier this month like we should have. We blame the dangerous proximity of GDC and PAX East for our delay. Along with the “The Lab” you have to look forward to next weekend, we’ve recapped the description and information for the first “The Lab” weekend in March in the schedule below. PAX East is right around the corner and we hope that any of you who were interested in attending managed to get tickets before the convention sold out on Monday. We had a great time at the inaugural PAX East last year with our panel Naughty Dog Live & Unleashed - Game Design with the Dogs. So much fun that we wanted to come back even though the studio is massively busy cranking away on UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. We had the incredible privilege recently to work with 2 Player Productions – you may remember them from PATV Season 1 and the massive buzz surrounding their Minecraft Kickstarter project – on a behind the scenes piece covering the lead up to the announcement of UNCHARTED 3. I know many of you have seen Part 1 of their UNCHARTED 3 behind the scenes piece and have been wondering when Part 2 will be released. Wonder no more – during our PAX East panel with 2 Player Productions, titled The Making of an Announcement – Uncharted 3: Read more...

Last week, a few of us headed up to San Francisco to attend GDC 2011 for a busy week of sessions and an extremely well-attended press event. With the PlayStation.Blog blogger lounge at the W hotel filled to near capacity, we presented two new aspects to UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception - gameplay in stereoscopic 3D and the main antagonist, Katherine Marlowe. It's awesome to now be able to talk about this as the press embargo lifted earlier this morning -- apart from our blog post here and on the PlayStation.Blog, be sure to visit any of the numerous publications who attended for their take on the event and the reveals. The press event started off with a demo of the UNCHARTED 3 burning chateau gameplay sequence, but it was presented in stereoscopic 3D for the first time ever outside of the studio. As I had mentioned over on the PlayStation.Blog, I feel that with this small snippet of gameplay we’ve proven that we’re able to perfectly retain all of the Read more...

We're just kicking off the first day of the main conference sessions here at GDC 2011. There's plenty of sessions during each time slot that promise to be interesting, compelling, educational or entertaining. I know it's been difficult for me to narrow down some of the sessions I've wanted to attend! Of course, one of Naughty Dog's own, Richard Lemarchand, is running a panel today that I've always enjoyed - and it's in it's third straight year at GDC! Titled GDC Microtalks 2011: One Hour, Ten Speakers, Hundreds of Fun New Ideas, the panel collects a diverse group of industry notables and gives them a highly constrained forum to discuss their thoughts on this years theme. I've copied the full session description below, so check it out for more details and I hope that some of you will attend! The full list of sessions, along with dates, times, locations and descriptions, is reproduced below. Visit our Facebook events page or the GDC Schedule builder if Read more...

If you've spent any time in the "All Competitive Modes" playlist, or selected this variation in Custom Games, there's a chance you may recognize this weekend's episode of "The Lab" - RPG - 7s Only - from the "All Competitive Modes" playlist as RPG's. Why would we put RPG - 7s Only, which you can already find in an existing playlist, into "The Lab" you ask? Because we have updated some of the gametype modes within the "All Competitive Modes" playlist. The update to "All Competitive Modes" removed the RPG - 7s Only and Snipers & Pistole gametypes entirely from rotation. In their place, we've added two gametype modes from "The Lab" - No Power Weapons and Desert 5 - Shootout. The current "All Competitive Modes" playlist now includes: Chain Reaction Plunder Turf War King of the Hill Pistol & Grenades No Power Weapons Desert - 5 Shootout We'll be keeping an eye on how the playlist changes shake out - we're thinking of making a couple more updates to the playlists Read more...

Looking over the full list of sessions, it looks like GDC 2011 is going to be pretty cool conference this year, as the conference celebrates its 25th anniversary. For the occasion, the GDC Advisory Board has even scheduled a great series of Classic Game Postmortems, running the gamut from Pac-Man to Bejeweled, not to mention one on Marble Madness by one of our favorite industry luminaries, Mark Cerny. GDC 2011 is going to be a relatively quiet conference for Naughty Dog as everyone is back at the studio working on UNCHARTED 3 – we’ve only got 8 months left until release! Although we’re not hitting GDC full force like we did last year, there’s still a few sessions you should consider if you happen to be attending the conference. The full list of sessions, along with dates, times, locations and descriptions, is reproduced below. Visit our Facebook events page or the GDC Schedule builder if you want to add these sessions to your calendar, export them Read more...

This weekend is a long weekend for many of us in the United States, as we celebrate the Federal Holiday that is known as Presidents Day on Monday, February 21. It’s also been about a month since our last Double or multiple Cash weekend and I’ve been hearing more than a few people ask when the next such weekend will happen. That weekend is now. We’ll be running Triple (3x) Cash in ALL playlists from Friday, February 18, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is that in my city?) through Tuesday, February 22, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is that in my city?). When we ran the last Triple Cash weekend in early January, a few people here and there were wondering why we chose to do 3x cash instead of the usual Double Cash. After running some mega cash multiplayer events in December, it felt to some of us that we set a little bit of a new expectation with multiple cash weekends and that it was a downer to take you all the way back down to “just” Double Cash. Welcome back to “The Lab.” For our first episode of “The Lab” in February, we’re bringing back the most popular gametype variation from the original three episodes of “The Lab” from way back in June 2010 – Shotguns Only. Here’s some trivia, Shotguns Only was the favorite gametype of nearly 45% of the over 2,400 players who voted in our front page poll, handily beating out Sniper Extermination and 2 vs 2 Team Deathmatch, both tied at about 27% of the total votes. “The Lab” is open from Thursday, February 10, at 10:00 AM PDT (what time Read more...

We’ve into the second month of 2011, and we’re only EIGHT months away from the release of UNCHARTED 3: Drake’s Deception. I know everyone is also looking forward to seeing what we’ve got in store for UNCHARTED 3 multiplayer and we’ll be scratching the surface of what I think is an incredibly deep multiplayer offering in due time – I mean it can’t be too long now right, since we’re running out of months before release. In the meantime, our focus is still with UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer and our “The Lab” series. For February we’re mixing things up a little – one of the very first “The Lab” gametype variations, Shotguns Only, returns for a standalone weekend. For the second “The Lab” weekend, we’ve pulled out an existing All Competitive Modes gametype variation. If you’re new to “The Lab,” welcome! “The Lab” is a special playlist we will be running Read more...

Can you believe that 2011 marks the FIFTEENTH anniversary of the release of the original Crash Bandicoot game? That’s right. Later this year – August 31 to be precise – will mark fifteen years since Crash Bandicoot was released in the United States for the original PlayStation console. Europe got to experience Crash Bandicoot just over two months later, in November. That would a series of blog posts covering the entire making of the original Crash Bandicoot game quite timely, don’t you think? Lucky for all of us, last week Naughty Dog co-founder Andy Gavin, did just that. The six-part series of blog posts by Andy, with additional insight from the other Naughty Dog co-founder, Jason Rubin, is a great, uncensored look at both the development the inaugural Crash Bandicoot game and game development in general during the mid-1990s. Welcome to our second episode of "The Lab" in 2011! As the studio continues to work hard on UNCHARTED 3: Drake's Deception, "The Lab" will spend the next months revisiting some of the best and most popular episodes from 2010. "The Lab" is open from Friday, January 28, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is that in my city?) through Monday, January 31, at 10:00 AM PST (what time is that in my city?). For this episode of "The Lab" we're bringing back a community favorite gametype variation from a very long time ago - June 2010 to be exact - with Sniper Extermination. All players will be equipped with only Dragon Sniper rifles - NO sidearms - as you play through this variation of the Elimination gametype. You've 99 bullets but only one life each round, and the first team to completely exterminate all players on the other team wins the round. Best of five rounds wins the match. Stick behind cover as much as possible, and take your shots carefully, as the range and power of Read more...

Not sure how many of our community may be attending Sundance 2011 - but if you happen to find yourself at or near Park City and the festival, there's a video games panel you may not want to miss. That panel is called Video Games: The Plot Thickens and takes place at New Fronter at the Miner's Hospital on Wedesnday, January 26, 2011, and features panelists from the video game industry who will get together and discuss narrative and character development in the unique interactive medium of video games. We're honored to see Naughty Dog Neil Druckmann make the trip out to Sundance 2011 to take part in the panel -- he's more than well-qualified to discuss the topic, having served as one of our game designers - along with some writing duties - on the UNCHARTED games, wrote and directed the UNCHARTED: Eye of Indra motion comic series, and is author of his own graphic novel, A Second Chance at Sarah. You can grab the full description of the panel below - or on the Read more...

Welcome everyone to 2011 and a brand new of year of “The Lab” in UNCHARTED 2 Multiplayer! If you’ve been playing UNCHARTED 2 multiplayer for the past six or so months, you may recognize episodes of “The Lab” we’ve listed below for January. As the studio continues to work feverishly on our next game, UNCHARTED 3, we’ll be easing up on the workload of our game designers so they can kick ass at making UNCHARTED 3 multiplayer awesome. We will help them out by focusing “The Lab” more on gametype variations we have already tested and deployed successfully. While this means we won’t be able to explore some of the hundreds of gametype and playlist suggestions you’ve given us, we’ve been able to map out our schedule for “The Lab,” Double (or greater) Cash Weekends and even some updates to the Playlists for the forseeable future. We’re still dedicated to making an effort to keep things Read more...
